i've been doing this for a few year now. always kept it quite because i thought it was kinda weird and people would LOL the thought of it. but now i see there are a few others that have done it.
i place square straw bails in a few stratigic spots on my land in the sanctuary.

    deer love bedding on straw.
even found a few sheds in them.

While walking through my property just after I purchased it, I found an old square foam piece that was surrounded by saplings and switch grass that had deer tracks and deer scent all over it. Turns out the deer were bedding on it. The literally had a foam bed in the woods. I'm not sure who put it there or what it was but I got a kick out of it.

Cool idea. We do that on our farm for a few cows. Put a round bale of hay out in the winter and they eat it and then lay up against it.
