I'm sitting here in the Boise, ID airport waiting for my flight home. A few minutes ago I went into a shop to get a bottle of water. When I checked out the lady pointed to two baskets full of goodies and asked me if I wanted to buy something to send to our troops. I don't know that I've ever been asked that before at a retail outlet, especially in an airport. I looked at the candy and junk food that was piled in the baskets and then glanced around to see what my choices were. My eyes finally settled on a display with $20 phone cards. For just a second I remembered being deployed and living for the next chance to call home. I said, how about five of those? She looked at me and said "Five?" I said "Yes Ma'am". She smiled, kind of shook her head a little and rang me up. I handed her my card and she asked for my I.D. I handed her my retired military I.D. She took it, glanced at it and said "Well it's no wonder", then walked around the counter and gave me a big hug and thanked me for my service. It's not every day you get a hug from a total stranger.
I've got the random stranger hug before. As you know its a great feeling. Having been on 3 different deployments I know the long wait till you can call home. I enjoyed that more then a basket of candy. Thank you for your service.
I know whoever gets that basket will be very happy to see those cards. Also, thank you for your service. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good stuff Little Chief, I know the deployments I've been on just seeing random thank you cards show up from back home (schools, churches, etc) made a world of difference in morale for troops. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
