This little guy will be going into shed training in a few weeks. I'm pretty excited to get him started. The girlfriend and I went back and forth on his name and we finally settled on "Buck". I finally won an argument! Lol

Congrats on the new addition to the family! A few weeks ago I brought home my pup (his name is Ruger) and am looking forward to working with him on killing pheasants! Hopefully he can find some sheds as well! [IMG]

Some good looking pups there guys. I am looking at picking up a lab next spring. At what age do start shed training? I have tons of sheds for her to play with when she comes home to be with us but are you guys actually sending your pups to a school or doing everything yourselves?

Congrats on the new best friend! My shorthair is 5.5 now and she loves shed hunting. Didn't start training her til she was about 1.5 (late) but she picked it up right.

Tough part was then getting her to ignore the ones in the house. Anytime she sees an antler she gets excited.

I got my pup last sept. He was born 7/21/14. The reason I got him was for duck hunting. But considering his lineage (field trial champions) I figured i owed it to him to play the hunt test /field trial game. Long story short, part of his training was for fetching. Which was started at about 6 months. All of his chew toys in the house are antlers. As part of force fetching I would point to a particular antler and say fetch, so he would go pick it up.....

Fast forward to shed season.... I took him along for exercise and out of no where he starts coming back with sheds.... so I ended up with a part time shed dog too.

Him playing the game he loves, hunt tests.

His final senior hunter pass for his title and 12 months

For those looking for actual titled shed dogs, there are actual shed hunting champions that you can buy pups out of. I don't know the organization off the top of my head though.
