The turkey's Friday morning were very boisterous on the roost. I had gotten setup in the blind with my buddy Dave and not long after (615) we heard our first gobble of the morning. Shortly thereafter we had 4-5 birds gobbling. Each one taking a turn after the first one finished. We were fairly close to the first bird, but the others seemed a distance off.

Around 630 we had a hen(who I have no idea how she didn't bust us getting in!) take off out of the pine trees next to use and land in the adjacent field. I figured great she'll lead the toms away! I was right except for one tom. This one had heard my calling and was working in quickly. Dave and I couldn't see the bird, but he had boomed a gobble not far away! We knew he had to be close! I glance to my right and what do I see? TAIL FEATHERS! He's here! I sit up a little and see his giant white head fixated on my jake and hen decoys in full strut! I grabbed my bow and readied for a shot. When he started to come out of strut and go after the jake decoy I let the arrow go. It was a perfect shot somehow as I was shaking like a leaf! The tom didn't go another 5 yards and laid there. My first turkey with a bow! I was beside myself! So awesome. Can't thank Dave enough for his help and being there for the moment.

He isn't a heavy bird at only 18.5lbs, but has the longest spurs I've taken with 1-1/8" hooks and a 10-3/4" beard. Thank you lord! What a great morning! It would have only been better had there been two toms strut in!

Thank you all very much! It was a great moment.

Yes, Kade was very excited to get the bird and the blind with me. He had to pick up feathers the broadhead cut off, a couple of wild violets, and a dandelion that he put by his seat in my truck and took home. We actually heard a couple gobbles also while we were packing up. He said, ''OH! Daddy I hear one!" Maybe if it all works out I can take him with me next year. He went deer hunting with me last year when we rattled in a 10 pointer that wouldn't come all the way in for a shot. He was psyched about that too.
