I was fortunate enough to take one of my friends on his very first turkey hunt. He is from California so he hasn't had the chance to turkey hunt. We went out on some public land in Northwest Missouri and had a great hunt. We got set up perfect time and shortly after the turkey started gobbling all around us. I could see the look in his eyes hearing all the turkey all around us and i knew at that point i had him hooked. As the morning went on we could hear the turkey getting closer and closer. All of a sudden we see a red head poke out of the brush and sees the decoys and doesn't like it at all. He started to putt and head the other way and sure enough all the other turkey followed him. They all went up over the hill and we figured we were done. Not to long after we see a head pop up over the same hill they went over and it was a jake coming right back at us. He ran into the decoys and then towards us and he shot him at about 10 yards at the most. He was super pumped and it was awesome to see that excitement. There is something about being able to take someone hunting for the first time and watch how much they enjoy it. That is what it is all about and I couldn't be happier to have experienced that with him.

I also got great video and I can't wait to get it done and show everyone the awesome hunt!

Thanks everyone! I know I won't ever forget it and neither will he. He is not in the Military Treyman654. This hunt was filmed with a T3i like my other videos and this one was shot with a 18-135 canon and an 18-55 canon. I am going out this weekend with a 17-85 and I have been playing around with it and I already love it for interview shots or closer up stuff.

Its funny, I know I get lost in trying to shoot a tom every year and tend to pass on a jake but that morning just reminded me not to get lost in the hunt of trying to kill a big tom and go out there and have fun. It didn't matter to him or to any of us the size of the turkey that morning it was just the fun of all of us going out there and having fun and the turkey was just a plus.
