Anybody else notice how much of a rope smell these have? I have 8 in my basement in a room that just reeks like the rope smell every time I go down there. If I can smell it so well you know a deer can pick it up a ways off. These ropes have been hand washed in scent free laundry soaps and soaked for days. Most of them have been outdoors for 3-4 months also. Should I be concerned and just use a climbing belt or just assume the deer will get used to the smell and stick them in the woods a couple months before season starts? Does anybody not use these ropes because of the smell? I don't want to leave them out year long cause they are expensive and also don't want the quality breaking down. Anybody have any tips to get rid of the smell or have a soap brand they recommend?

What he said ^^^ if that doesn't work get some Carbon Synergy powder and make a tote of it with water and drown the thing in it.

Woods: there are many smells in the woods. Deer are only afraid of predators and their smell so I wouldn't be concerned about that. I would however be concerned about how well the scent free soap works though.

Wash them in Sport Wash. I wash all my gear: packs, ropes, safety harnesses, cushions etc.

Mmmm, interesting. first off where do you store them off season. If it's in plastic container, sometime the VOC's give off gas that impregnate materials giving them a "chemical type'" smell. Try to put it in container with some dirt. Preferably like the kind you find under pine tree. They should absorb that odor after while. You definitely don't want to let them sit out in the weather exposed to the sun/elements for a long period. The elements will weaken the fibers and then it won't do what it is intended to do, stop you from hitting the ground.
Call the company and talk to them also. See if anyone has had the same issue.
    good luck

It's the new rope smell. 6 are HSS and 2 are Big Game lifelines. They are airing out in a big room not in a tote for the off season. All have been washed and still smell but the 2 Big Game ones smell worse cause I bought them after the season and haven't aired them out for to long. But the 6 HSS still smell just not as bad. I'm sure after another season or two the smell will go away. And i'm sure as has been suggested deer won't care cause it's not a predator smell. I just needed some reassurance is all cause i'm trying to do everything right and I know when I'm not seeing deer I will want to blame it on the smell and not the other 45 reasons it could be lol. I'll also try the baking soda and other soaps mentioned above. Thanks.

Just make sure the dirt isn't really moist or it will mold on you.
