    Pope Francis seems pretty harmless.

Obviously this is a catholic thing which I do not belong to. Don’t lump everyone in with the Catholics. I never got the claim that Mary was holy either. Only Jesus was holy IMHO.

To the Catholics he is the ultimate leader of their faith, can not really judge as an outsider.

Agreed! Just like people try to make all crosses holy.

    i'm very much a Christian.
that being said, there are SO MANY things that actually make me sick about church/religion.
specially the Catholic side. the knealing 5 times at a 1 hour service is just to damn much.

The pope is the head of the Catholic Church, Catholics do not worship the pope. To think otherwise is misinformed. Sure there is fanfare surrounding the pope, but there is also fanfare surrounding Ted Cruz. Because people like someone and seek guidance from them does not make them a false idol.

The Catholic Church claims that he speaks "ex cathedra" or infallible ... in place of Christ ....so...if that isn't worship....

That is YOUR perception of my intent, not my reality.

Well then why post the photos you did and not claim intent, obviously you had an agenda. Last I checked a hidden agenda is not ethical in interpersonal communication.:p

I think my intent is pretty clear. Sitting around kissing the gold ring of a guy being hoisted in the air IS worshiping a false idol. I find it funny many religious groups can talk and judge others under the guise of religious teachings, yet for example when I bring this up somehow I am misjudging or making fun of something...or even better I cant understand bc I am an outsider.

I see a lot of tradition and historical buildings/items in those pics.

Religion has it's place in society, it's necessary. It's the church that I don't care for. In my opinion, it's the church that has turned so many people away from God, or their beliefs in God. Not just the Catholic church, although I think they are the biggest offenders.

I agree it seems like outright worship. Thing that always bothered me about the Catholic church is that for an organization that claims to follow Christs teachings, it/they certainly covet the wealth and display it like it's God almighty.

I am spiritual but I am not a fan of organized religion or it's many conflicts of interest. It makes me ill to go to a church and get the distinct feeling my faith is being used as a business tool. You can pretty much drive into any town no matter how small and the nicest buildings in town will be a bank, a liquor store and several churches.
