When hunting early season, what kind of snake protection have you guys found to be useful and comfortable? Please be specific (brand/style, etc). I'm leaning toward gaiters instead of chaps. I could be talked into boots if the comfort factor is significantly better.

I would say get what's best for you or what feels good to you. I do like rattlers at all but my line of work I'm always running into them and what I do know is you usually hear them and see them first well most of the time. Ask your self this how many snakes you see every season and what type of terrain and cover your in and go from there to narrow your choices.
I like them a lot. A friends has some and suggested them. We have a lot of copperheads here and when I saw the pic of the guy pulling the copperhead from his boot I was sold. I will only wear them when I am turkey hunting or checking cams this Spring/Summer. Whether or not they are "totally" waterproof is not a deal breaker for me. I want the protection the offer.
Hunting in Texas rattlers are common.. I like boots that cover the calf and have a zipper on the side for ease of getting into and out of, try several on and see what's most comfortable for you. End of day best defense for Snakes is being alert and keeping your eyes where you go taking your time and avoid em if you do run on to em. Can't bite what they can't reach I always say. I wear GameWinner Zipper side waterproof.
Not something that I have ever run into up in northern IL. To be honest if I see any snake at all in a year that is surprising.
Gaithers for me. I have a pair of rubber snake proof boots too, but they're like walking in metal boots.
Chuck Norris lives in Texas.........Last i heard there was a mass Exodus of snakes headed south out of his County
