Question for that that are involved in programs to thin the herd at parks. Do most cities require that you hunt from an elevated platform?
Yes, they require a portable treestand and climbing sticks. Also, you cannot cut a shooting lane and must take shots 20 yards or less.
wish they would let us hunt some of the city land here, we have a green-way that goes right through town and every time we walk it or bike it we see dozens of deer and some monster buck as well.. I think the city has sharpshooters come in at night and shoot them off bait piles rather then let us hunt them...
Not sure if I want to get involved or not. I am pretty spoiled with my home hunting set up. I honestly hate platform stands and the idea of packing in and out every time just makes me hesitant. I wanted to ghilie hunt on the ground, but I understand why they have the rules. I know a guy who runs a hunting program that does not allow any shots from the ground not even a finishing shot if a deer is spined.
They are in the process of putting together the program, it would be parks. Not your traditional city park.
I have hunted in several different management programs, most required stands, but not all. They all seem to have different rules. The one thing that all these management hunts have in common is that the hunting is good the first year or two, then goes downhill very quickly after that due to the over harvest of does these programs promote. Bowhunting works better at reducing deer herds than deer birth control does, that's for sure!
not sure if you are talking about the twin cities in minnesota, but yes, they do have a program, http://mbrb.org/mbrb/. Also, if you look around your local city websites, you can find other hunts there as well
yes Minneapolis, st. Paul... saw it on a hunting show a few years ago.. They won't do it here in GA too many bunny huggers in the metro areas..
