If a convicted sex offender was released/put on parole and moved pretty close to you, what reaction would you have?

Assume this person was convited of a serious sex crime (not something of the nature of a 18 year old having sex with his 17 year old Girlfriend). I'm referring to rape, molestation, child porn, etc. Also assume he will still be under “supervision” of the department of corrections.

    Would you?
    1. Move somewhere else
    2. Complain to the governing body and argue he should not be allowed to move there
    3. Make sure to watch the kids more closer and more intently than you would of if he did not live in the neighborhood
    4. Ask your wife/kids not to go for an evening walk or jog past his house.
    5. Not change anything and resume life as you know it knowing the guy has served his time and debt to soceity and is being supervised.
    6. Other

Your kids or wife never go for a bike ride or a walk? That just really isn't practical to just say I have a gun and a camera.

    5. Not because they served there time but because there is someone or something dangerous everywhere. You just have to be smart with what you do.

I have a patient who got caught with child porn on his home computer, not sure the charges as it was last year....but he still comes to the office. We just act as if we know nothing.

In order on how I would handle it...

    1. Complain to the governing body and argue he should not be allowed to move there
    2. Make sure to watch the kids more closer and more intently than you would of if he did not live in the neighborhood
    3. Ask your wife/kids not to go for an evening walk or jog past his house - I would have my wife enrolled in a conceal/carry class ASAP. Never leave without her phone.
    4. Move somewhere else

I can't stand a diddler.....once a diddler always a diddler. no such thing as reforming a disgusting human being.

    in no perticular order:

2.Complain to the governing body and argue he should not be allowed to move there
3.Make sure to watch the kids more closer and more intently than you would of if he did not live in the neighborhood
4.Ask your wife/kids not to go for an evening walk or jog past his house.

Perverts should all be rubbed down with Ape in heat oil and thrown in with a big old Silverback Gorilla ....then they should be castrated ....no, hung from their balls until they die ...

They should be. But that's not what we do with them so we end up with them loose on the streets.

You need to thoroughly school your kids about this. The first time sex offender is, perhaps, more of a threat than the registered sex offender.

And sex offenders don't confine their activities to just their own neighborhood.

When I lived in Alabama I got a notice that an offender was moving into a house nearby. He had child porn convictions. I always went outside with my kids so I wasn't worried he would ever get a chance to do anything around them, but just in case I confirmed distance with a range finder from a part of my backyard he couldn't see and it was exactly 404 feet to where he sat in a chair in his backyard.

Pretty much this. Things happen more and more these days and every time it does its the same "I can't believe he/she would ever do that, they always seemed so nice." Don't be a soft target.

I hear that these types of people cannot be reformed. I do not know for sure but I am sure a true experience with Jesus could change their heart. Barring that I would never let my guard down and would always be suspicious of their activities and be watchful of anything they did.

Too many stories of these types released from prison then they are involved in a molestation, abduction, murder, rape, etc. The judicial system just wants them out but society has to live with them and by the time the police get involved it is always reactionary after something bad has happened. Then the question, "Why would they let such a bad guy out".

Vigilance or maybe the proactive version - Vigilante
