Hey guys i got a question. I need a new bow for deer hunting I have 2 options right now. I can buy an older hoyt pro-elite in good condition or I can buy a new PSE surge for about 100$ more. Advice on which way to go ?
I'd probably go look at Missions new stuff. Only reason is I have dealt with PSE twice on getting parts and waited 3+ months both times. Mission and mathews in general you can order and get parts in 2 weeks or less usually and they keep parts available basically forever. PSE not so much. For that reason alone my next bow will probably be a Mathews. Your options would be the Craze or Riot probably.
Only reason I say stay away from used is that comes with no guarantee. Hate to see people or myself buy used to save money then just have to sink more money getting it working right.
I just posted my Mathews Switchback for sale. I have a full ready to hunt set up if you want to get some accessories with it as well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
surge retails for $399 bare bow look for last years model if you can find one.. several ready to shoot packages on EBAY $379 +- Bare around $300.. free shipping
I always heard that in order for your new bow to be covered under warranty it had to be purchased from a physical dealer and not online. This may have changed but I know it was the case with several manufactures. If you buy used try to take it to a shop that will look it over for you or at least a knowable friend. I would pass on the pro elite for 300, while it was probably a great bow we're talking about 10 years of technology advancements in bows. And a year ago I bought a 09 katera for 260.
I asked Martin about that when I bought my new Nitro Nemesis... they told me as long as the bow was new and I had a receipt I was good to go.. So at least with Martin you do not have to buy from a brick and mortar dealer.
Surge is a good bow, along with its predecessor, the Brute X. Bear has some nice bows at good prices as well. Good luck. V
Personally I would go with the new stuff if your budget allows the extra $$. Best of luck choosing, let us know what you go with and post some pics when you get it!!
I'd keep saving. Put $100 dollar bills in a envelope. Save till you get what you really want. Some guys change bows like underwear. By going to different dealers and shooting what they recommend for your needs. You'll find the right one. I don't care what you do for a living, a grand is a grand. Most importantly, a new bow from a dealer, comes with a warranty.... Ebay bows make a great back ups. Take one of those hundreds back out of he envelope for Valentines Day. If you show up with a new bow and she gets nothing... The next one to get nothing, will be you.
Craig's list here is full of new/newer bows right now. A lot of guys buy new bows give it a shot for a season or two and are done with it after they don't kill their b/c bruiser, or sell there current rig after Getting something else for Christmas.
I concure with this post... if you save your money over a few months you can get that dream bow and set it up right the first time id do your research and find the one that not only u like but fits your shooting form and feels great in your hand as well as shooting it and seeing how it feels. I would just go buy any bow thats setup already I would buy new out of the box and then set it up either your self or take it to someone and have them setup to your specs and like. Everyone has there different ways of shooting.... id do it RIGHT and you will tell your self "Glad I did wait and save".
