Checkin in...I've got 1 shed and 1 deadhead so far. It will be a while before they drop here but that won't keep me from looking for last year's misses.
Lol, that's awesome. I'm not enthusiastic about being team captain but will do it if no one else wants to be. Not like there's anything to it and I'm here all the time, lol. I'm done picking team names, lol. I'll vote on the options but I think I've named the last two teams I was on and we didn't win so time for a change, lol.
Number 2 on the year...last year's shed but a nice tall one. 3 for 3 with 2 sheds and a dead on lunch break walks so I think I could get used to that!
So how do you guys go about looking for sheds? Do you use public land, private, lease? Anyone go out knocking on doors for permission the same as they would for hunting permission? Just trying to get some conversation going.
I have private ground. Might hit up some public land and trails that run through the town I live in. Lots of big bucks in town here.
I found 17 last year and they were all on public but one. Might venture onto some private this year. Deer aren't herded up like usual here because it's been a very mild winter so it's going to be a tougher year I think.
I hit small woodlots between businesses or around churches on my lunch breaks at work. I also try a couple spots on public land but the small lots are easier to target and cover the whole area. I have a few places I would love to get permission to try but I know others hunt them and they can be strict on who has access so I always talk myself out of asking...maybe one day I'll get the guts to try
Mine's all private property. I found most of mine last year while spreading fertilizer on the fields and mowing. Don't recall what my total was last year but it was pretty decent, hopefully I have a better year this time around. *Edit* I ended up with 20 for the contest last year. Overall I ended up with closer to 40 but the contest was well over with by the time I found the last of them.
I go out on public ground and a few places on private that I have permission to hunt. I thought about knocking on doors to look for sheds this year and maybe it could lead to new hunting spots.
