like the title says lets talk vacuums ... since I work from home and the wife works in an office I do 99% of the house work including vacuuming, we are currently on our 3rd one in the last 10 years and it is a bag-less.. I hate bag-less vacuums especially when it comes time to empty and clean it, you can't help but get dust all over yourself even if done outside [which is the only place to do it] Over the years we have been told and conditioned that bag-less was the only way to, much like every thing else they tell us is better and we can't live without.. There is a reason the high end vacs are bagged BECAUSE IT'S BETTER... So anyway while cleaning it out today I had one of my rage attacks I am, subject to get from time to time and started slamming it against the garage floor then tossing in the trash.... I am all better now thanks for asking.. At any rate do any of you use a bagged vac? Any recommendations on a bagged vac most stores don't even carry them any more will probably have to go to an actual vacuum store....
Kenmore canister model with the new Hepa filters. they run around $200 at your local Sears store. They last forever and do a great job. We have had two over the past 30 years, and the first on is still in use as a work shop vac....
Oreck XL. That's what we use for all our cleaning at the resort. Light weight, powerful, durable, parts available. We beat the crap out of them with out 13 cabins and the Lodge and they keep on ticking.
We have the Dyson ball for pets. It has a canister and I just hold it over my trash can and hit the button to release the door no mess worked great Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
My mom had a cleaning business and I used to help out a bit. We used primarily Panasonic uprights. They were light, fairly quiet, powerful and tough. They had bags. I have used a canister Electrolux and didn't like it at all. Heavy and prone to issues. One of the offices we cleaned had an Oreck but I preferred to use the Panasonic. Maybe there was something wrong with that Oreck but it was pretty anemic. For home use I have one of the old Panasonics for mudroom, car/truck duty. I have a Eureka 'the boss' vacuum that is pretty powerful but the hose has torn apart and I'm tired of duct taping it back together. (I should just buy a new hose.... ) Now I am using a bagless Hoover Elite upright vacuum. It's the most bipolar vacuum I've used. It's only a year and a half old but some days it will suck a paper clip 3' across the carpet and other days it won't pick up a piece of lint. (so I'm exaggerating but you get my drift) I am no fan of the bagless feature, sure I don't have to buy bags... but eww.
We also have the Dyson pet one. We have a filthy (from being outside a lot) and sheds like crazy yellow lab and two boys making a constant mess. No complaints with the vacuum, have had it maybe 2 years.
For 300-500 look into riccar, stay away from dysons or any other vacuum you can buy at a big box store for that matter, plus riccar is an American owned company. This is all speaking from experience also, I used to run a vacuum shop for a few years owned by a family friend. We had more dysons in the shop for repairs than we knew what to do with, also, when it does need repairs l, it isnt cheap. Also, if you can find a used panasonic up right they are almost identical to riccar. Also a solid vacuum. Kirby is also something to keep an eye out for on craigslist. eye

there is Riccar dealer about 10 miles from me in Woodstock or there was,and I am always on craigslist...when not on here..lol one of the advantages of being semi-retired and working from home..
Dysons don't have a bag correct? I am trying to get away from all the dust and allergens that poof back up in your face when you dump them...And that can't be avoided with a bag-less no matter how good they suck..lol
