Okay, so I want to pick up some Killzones but I want to know what the pro's and cons are of the Cut on Contact head vs the Trophy Tip. Any of you have experience with these? I will be hunting whitetail in South Carolina and Hog in Florida so any help in choosing between the two would be greatly appreciated!!
I don't like the CoC blade, I just feel like it could roll on a rib bone, so I went with the trophy tip.
Personally I always get the trophy tip. To me it just seems a lot more solid. It has been around for a long time to so its stood the test of time. As long as you have the kinetic energy either will work fine. Good luck on your trip and take plenty pics to share.
****s has the cut on contact on sale for 29 $ / three pack I shoot trophy tip spitfire and would go trophy tip kill zone if I was to switch
I went with the Trophy Tip, because I'd like to have that added punch if I hit shoulder blade or bone. I'd recommend the same for you, especially since you are hunting hogs.
Thanks fellas!! I was leaning toward the trophy tips and your replies have reinforced that. I will definitely take pics and get them posted up. I certainly have the kinetic power for trophy tips. Shooting a Hoyt Faktor Turbo at 70# and DL of 28.5". Arrow is an ST Epic with 50gr brass insert and 100gr broadhead. Total arrow weight is 457gr. I doubt I will have any issues but it's alwasy nice to get more opinions before making a tough decision.
I have the trophy tip and I won't use anything else. I will post pictures of what the damage did to my buck I shot this year.
I went with the trophy tip. Shot a coyote 5 yards from my tree shot him in the back and gutted him at the same time. Sent from my USCC-C6721 using Tapatalk
I use the COC tip. Both deer I shot this year has nice 1.5" entrance and exit wound... I think either would do though. Solid broadhead non the less.
It honestly really doesn't matter, I've killed plenty of deer with both and haven't seen a difference in either one. I shot a lot of animals with the Spitfire max (COC head) as well as the original spitfire. I shot a mule deer in 2011 at 50 yards with a spitfire max and it blew through with no problems. The only advantage I see to the trophy tip, is that when you have to replace the blades, you don't have to do the tip :D
all comes down to shot placement. but the trophy tip will drill through the shoulder a little bit better.
I agree. I've shot several deer and antelope and used both with great results. I've also shot several hogs with the Spitfire Max and got pass throughs.
I personally think the trophy tip will rob more energy for penetration but I would hope if shooting a mechanical, there will be energy to spare.
I decided to go with the Trophy Tip. I bought 2 pack of them just last week. I believe I have more than enough energy for them with the setup I currently have. I just don't like the idea of the CoC blade bending upon hitting a bone. That would definitely ensure poor penetration.
Wonder why they don't use a chisel tip? Chisel tip has a mechanical advantage over the trophy tip. The whole point is that penetration talk with a mechanical of this style is quite the oxymoron, the head isn't made with penetration as the number one goal in mind. If you want penetration, shoot a coc head. Lol
Lol, I'm with you tfox. I wondered about the chisel tip as well... my guess is a patent issue but that's just a guess.
