I have 2013 hoyt spider 30 (aluminum). And in September I noticed the limbs splintered a little. The shop said I could still shoot it and I did took 3 with it this year. But I called a couple times and got some bs about how they didn't get it don't yet. Fast forward to today it's been close to 3 months I go in and there's a new manager. He tells me that what happened was a common with hoyt. I thought they were a really tough bow. That was the main reason for buying it. But I will have new limbs in a bout a week or so. season is over here now anyway. Think it's time for a new shop. Had a couple problems with then and in asking questions about stuff got a lot of Idk. Thinking about switching to bows to might go shoot some???
You are braver than me to knowingly keep shooting a bow with a splintered limb. Hope they get it taken care of soon.
No way in heck I would even consider drawing a bow that was questionable. I was standing three feet from a guy that had his bow explode. You would be amazed at how much damage they can do to you. Seriously dangerous.
I don't know who's more crazy, you for shooting it like that or him telling you it's "common with Hoyts"? I've had my Vectrix for 7 years without a single issue.
Sounds like an issue with the shop,not the bow. Stuff can happen with any product but its the dealers job to act on behalf of the manufacturer and support the product.
That's how I feel. I went to this place cause my coworkers son ran the place. Come to find out he was the problem. I've asked around and found another place little farther but family owned. When I get my bow back I'm gonna have them put my new string and stuff on for now. And yes guys I made the dumb mistake of listening to the guy and shooting it and it won't happen again.
Hoyts have had the edges splinter and it is NOT a structural issue. Usually fingernail clippers and a piece of sandpaper fixes the issue. These splinters usually occur from contact with something on the edge of the limb but hoyt warranties this, even though it isn't an issue structurally.
This! Hoyts will get small limb splinters in the outer edges from bumps and knocks. Has no effect on the limb structurally what so ever. Just clip and sand it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'd switch shops. Had a limb break on my Maxxis. Had new top and bottom limbs in less then 4 days and the shop gave me a bow to hunt with. Didn't cost me a dime to have fixed. I was super happy with the shop and Hoyt.
The top limb on my 2003 Havoc-Tec , splintered on the edge , I cut it off and still shooting it today 11 years later ...
I would never ever ever be going back to a bow shop that told me it was ok to continue shooting a splintered limb and that it was normal (for any brand) on a year old bow.
I wouldn't worry about it, it happened to my carbon element. I shot it for a whole year like that 1000s of shots, it never got worse. Just like said above I clipped the little fibers off of the edges of the limb. I sent hoyt a pic of the limb and they sent me a fresh new set on warranty.
Depends on what was going on with the op limbs but a sliver off the edge of a limb is NOT structural. If it's a delamination then NO to you don't shoot. Any shop should be able to deferentate between the two if the shooter can't.
Why is it normal for them to splinter on the edges? I would think Hoyt would fix this even if is doesn't affect it structurally.
Hoyt is sending new limbs should be in soon. And the Manger at the shop no longer works there. The new Manger told me how he has been fixing all kinds of stuff. Bit I'm still going to a new shop. A was asking a question and got a lot of I don't know. One of my hunting buddy's gave me a good reference to a shop
They do warranty it as I stated earlier but it is not a structural issue. But most will just clip, sand and shoot.
I know they do but find it odd that they still have this problem. I wouldn't sand down a $1400 bow and wouldn't want to have to get new limbs all the time. Not bashing but I find it weird that bowtech gets bashed for their limbs flaking by hoyt guys a hoyt has this issue.
