Nope not going to do it, not any other month either. My place is a night club for deer, not a breakfast café.
I will concentrate the majority of my time on early morning hunts in December. Haven't quite figured out the afternoon routine yet on our property.
I'm still doing both. Actually been doing more morning hunts as of late. I'm still trying to figure out this new piece of property that I'm on.
I hunt whatever I have time for. If it's time in the morning, then I'm hunting morning. Time in the evening, then it's the evening. My property has generally been a morning spot over the years. Every deer I've killed on it has been in the morning.
I think it just matters where you are and what time the deer hang out thier. My personal favorite is morning only because ive killed all my deer in the morning including a pretty nice 9 Point this saterday that i will be posting some pics of when i get a chance. but that doesnt mean i dont hunt evenings i havent killed any in the evenings but i have saw some of the biggest deer i have ever seen in the evenings
I think most of my opportunity is gonna come from daytime sits plus with work evening hunts are just spare of the moment when I get off at 5:00 an the sun is setting around 530 its dark. Only way im gonna hunt the evening is if im off by 4:00 an I dont see it happening
I see 3-4 times more deer in the afternoon in December. That being said, I have to hunt when I can so I will hunt 75/25 mornings and evenings.
I checked (5) cams over food plots Saturday night & I do not think it is quite cold enough where I am yet. Morning hunts where I set up for late season are pretty much a "no".
I always prefer morning hunts. No matter what time of year. However, it seems the deer prefer evenings.
For those that are hunting mornings are you trying to get into a spot catching deer going from feed to bed? I am always worried I am going to bump or educate deer in the mornings in December. I prefer to just hunt evenings with a few exceptions.
I prefer evenings in the late season. Although when its really cold a late morning hunt often works well. I'm not sure if there is any validity to the notion, but, I have noticed that when it is very cold out, deer will often come out to our food plots late morning. My only thought could be that, the deer are feeding in warmer temps so that they are not wasting as much calories staying warm and are gaining more calories at this time. It also could be that the deer just need to feed more often and therefor come out late morning- mid day to fulfill their caloric needs. Regardless when it's real cold this strategy seems to work.
I would love to hunt evenings, but I have literally just a few minutes between the end of the work day and darkness. So I hunt when I can....mornings. After the rut, however....I see very few deer. So I need Saturday and Sunday nights free and hope my family and the weather will work out in my favor. So far, zero evening hunts! I can only hunt when I get t he chance, so I go when my family is sleeping.
