All set to go this morning go out and the Jeep won't start. Cranks and cranks but no start. Finally get it started if it drops below 1000 RPM it dies immediately. This blows. Looking forward to sitting during the first snow of the year and instead I get to work on a vehicle during the first snow.
Last time that happened to my Jeep, I needed new spark plugs. They hadn't been changed in a LONG time. Hope you get it running quickly!
All the normal maintenance and a tune up was done in July. In the back of my head I'm thinking fuel pump but I really hope that's not the case. I have a 96 and they are a 1 off part only used on that year. Your basically reduced to finding one in a junkyard if that's the case. Not to mention I just filled up last night before I came home.
I read online when trying to diagnose mine last year that someone had that problem after filling up and starting the Jeep with the gas cap removed fixed the problem. Worth a shot. Also a bad Idle Air Controller (IAC) could be the problem. They're less than $50 usually. Jeep problems are no fun, but they're usually cheap to fix - even if you have to dig through someone's junk yard to fix them.
I am leaning toward the IAC. Most everything else is new and runs great as long as I give it gas. Just will not idle.
Got it. It was the IAC. Must have been on its way out for a while it starts and idles better than it has since I owned it. Sucks can't hunt this evening though. In laws coming over then back to work for the next 10 days.
