?The Franz Buck? ? The Largest Free Range Whitetail Ever Killed On Film ? Wired To Hunt Would you have taken the shot at 46 yards?
With a crossbow or compound? It depends on how far you practiced out to I guess... I assume you can shoot a crossbow out to roughly 50 yards? I think I would have taken the shot with a crossbow, not compound.
I'm assuming a crossbow is easier to shoot and faster? I really don't know. If that is the case I would have probably taken shot if I was comfortable with that distance. I shoot past that with my bow for practice, but in my mind I've thought 40 yards is tops for whitetail in perfect conditions so it would be hard not to turn the dial on adjustable sight to 46 and not shoot. Again, only if he stopped and wasn't alert. I probably would take the shot. A lot can happen at that distance whether you hit your target or not. I commend the guy for not shooting though. He did what he was comfortable with in regards to taking what he thought would only be a kill shot. Not a hail mary.
I've practiced out to 55 yards and have a personal limit of 45 yards when deer and wind is calm...that's essentially the same situation...so I probably would have. This all after warming myself by peeing and/or crapping my pants.
Each of us is different. Some are better shots than others. That being said, I am not comfortable even shooting at 35 yards, so no I would not have taken the shot.
With a real bow............... No. I dont use a crossbow so I dont know what that sort would do with such a weapon. Nice deer but it was a crossbow/ML hunt so aside from being a big buck it seems odd to be on bowhunting.com.
First off I have never heard of Archery Talk, must be gay. Second, just put yourself in the situation with "your" bow.
No shot for me. I had one of my target bucks at 45 yards for over an hour two evenings ago. He was calm and feeding. I did not take the shot. I have been too busy to practice much beyond 30 yards so that is my limit for now.
If you edit quickly it will not show it as edited. Try it twice. (I will change once to twice with no edit.)
