Brothers: I was told today that someone I know downed a deer at 150 YARDS. That is half the distance of an English Long Bow and they were fired in mass. What is the longest shot you have taken at a deer and have successful take the deer and would you do it again? I will go first 25 yards but I am 56 and have only been back at it for 4-5 year. PAX PSR
I've killed a couple at 40 yards. I would shoot one at 50 if the conditions were perfect. But I say that because I practice 50 yards and further regularly. If I didn't practice that there is absolutely no way I would shoot that far.
Longest shot so far has been 22 yards. I hunted mostly pine plantations and pretty tight quarters. I am now hunting an area that would allow for 50 yard + shot but deer are so pressured here. Even with a quick bow, 50 yards gives a deer a lot of time to move resulting in a bad shot. If deer was relaxed, I would feel comfortable at 50-60. I practice 80+ a lot.
50 yards just a couple days ago, but I wouldn't do it on a consistent basis. It was on a buck I was after and I was calm and the shot ended up perfect, but most of the time I'd pass that shot even though I can hit to 60 on the target Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I killed a buck at 47 yards. He was in a field, feeding and completely relaxed, with no wind per se. I would not attempt a shot of that length in the woods though... to many variables.
Me too, on my bow range in a tee shirt. But with the right light, equipment and 20 years younger. I am in too. Scotty
I shot a doe last year at 45 yards. Shot her through the guts I might add. It was a terrible shot. I gave her time to lay. I found her about 80 yards from where I shot her.
43 yards deer ran 35 yards and hit the dirt didn't even make it out of the field i practice out to 60 yards but would only take a 50 yard shot if everything was right
25 yards. The longest ever was 40 and it wasn't even close. I think my arrow went right through the dust cloud she kicked up to get out of there.
I shot a doe at 63 in a field out of a bed of a truck 2 years ago. It was the perfect setting but i more than likely would never take a shot like that in the woods
Have to jog the memory banks but I think it would be around 30 ish. Big doe that went about 100 yards.
47 yards, slightly quartering away, head down in beans, light if any wind. Deer picked it head up, stood there, tail flickered a handful of times and fell over within 20 seconds. I would have thought I missed it completely if it wasn't for the blood pumping out. I shot low and hit the heart.
