Okay, so here we go, post number 3001 The buck I posted yesterday as my new #1, named "Boom" got bumped down to second place this morning when I pulled the card from the east side of the same property! Two old hit listers in as many days. If this happens again tomorrow it will end my season because I'll have a heart attack! Without further ado, let me introduce the buck I call "Crossbow"
AWESOME! Good Luck CM -I'd love to see you get anyone of the last two bucks you've posted.. Cool name too!
Thanks! Actually I guess I've added three to the hit list in two days. The 8 point that was at the feeder with Crossbow is well worth adding also. I think he's easily in the 5 yo minimum.
I would love to be able to invite a few guys from the forum down every year to chase these deer but I have no idea how I'd be fair about choosing a select few nor would I ever get permission from the landowner I manage for, I can't even get my brother in law permission but that's the way it goes so I don't push the issue. It would be a blast though to meet some forum guys in person and hunt with them. Maybe some day in the not too distant future I'll buy some land next door and we'll do it.
is it too early to get in line for whenever that day may be? hahaha good luck man hope you get one 20yds broadside this season
You could have almost named him CrossBeam! Look at the length of those things!! Gonna gain some inches right there!
This property is superb and will be exquisite in the years to come. It's rough and undeveloped but I described it as a diamond in the rough to my landlord when asked my opinion of it. It was all old pasture and CRP native grass. The pasture had been overgrazed to the point of nothing but weeds for years. Overgrown locust and hedge and ceresia lespadeeza all over. We added it last year and I started cleaning it up, adding mineral and supplemental feed over winter. This spring I cleaned up about 50 acres and planted to milo in the center of the property with cowpeas mixed in. I suspect that has something to do with the bucks showing up. More food plots to be planted yet if conditions permit and we'll hope for another major boom in antler production next year. Haha, that would have been good too. My dad named him after I showed him a pic. Chose Crossbow because of the crisscrossing mains and the drastic bow in the right G4. Yes his mains are incredible, I can't wait to lay a tape on them (maybe too presumptuous :lol) His tine length id pretty incredible too, only thing that could have really really made him was more mass. Believe that's a soil PH issue, we'll see if we can't remedy that in the future. They have the genetics to get there with the right ingredients.
Yes I really am a believer in it as part of a holistic approach to management. A big part of the overall recipe no doubt. Good mineral and feed and cover and incredible things can happen. We had good deer last year but overall our deer have really exploded this year. We had a great year for antlers too so I know I can't take all the credit but I'll be more than happy to take some of it. It's amazing to see results of hard work and effort coming together!
Yeah it's definitely nice to see such great results from all the hard work. No doubt you have a good thing going and it's only going to get better from here. Can't wait to see the hero pics with one of those old bruisers soon!
ROFL, shuddup...like you need another place to chase monsters...my fellow kansan. Besides if I ever get to invite guests, I'll probably invite the guys that are, how do I say it...less proficient killing machines. I'll PM Toney and Tyni...ROFLMBO. Poor guys, sorry I couldn't help myself.
