What releases do you guys use? Do y'all prefer the thumb release or the regular release with the wrist strap ?
Hands down the thumb release. I used to shoot a wrist strap and shot well, but instantly shrank my groups when I switched to a thumb style release. I initially started off with a Stan SX-2, and then switched to a Carter Evolution, and now I shoot a Carter Too Simple. It has been by far my favorite release. The trick to it for me is to use the meat of my thumb instead of my actual thumb. I wrap the meat of my thumb around the barrel of the release and just squeeze/pull into the release until it fires, I get much less anticipation this way which helps to prevent slapping the trigger and/or target panic.
I like the wrist strap. I have a buckle strap for consistency in fit, then it has a hook instead of a caliper. I think it provided the best and smoothest release for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I like the buckle strap, wrist release with a hook. Works best for me and can fold back on my arm when not in use. Plus it's fully adjustable for placement of trigger and trigger weight so it's tuned to to suit me.
I use the same release (I think) as yancey. Tru fire hardcore max. You can adjust it for trigger travel and trigger weight so the length and difficulty of pull is just the way you like it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I switched from a wrist release to the TRU Ball Fang 3 finger release, prefer it much better now plus I can hook it to the D-loop in the stand and not worry about clanking the wrist release on the stand accidentally. Feels much better drawing with it for me as well.
That's are added reasons why I like the thumb style release better. It's quicker than a wrist strap type when hunting. I don't have to take time to hook my release up- just grab your bow and draw! And like Schuls mentioned, no accidental clanking the head of your release off your bow/stand/stick/camera/whatever!
I use a Scott Little Goose. It is a wrist strap style with trigger. It has worked really well for me.
I tried the Carter Too Simple and it is great release. But could never get as comfortable with it as my Scott Wildcat with the NCS strap connector.
scott silverhorn velcro wrist strap. it hooks on easily without even looking, adjustable for length and trigger pull and auto-cocking heading into it's second season and so far so good
Yep that's it. Mines the forward facing trigger. Great release. I love that thing. Works like a champ. I tried the one with the trigger swept back and didn't like to reach for it so I went with the other. It's great being able to customize the pull and wight so you get what works for you.
Scott shark with buckle strap. If you do choose a trigger release I highly recommend a buckle strap for constancy and how quiet they are
Carter chocolate lite 3 finger. First season switching to a thumb trigger release, and I don't think I will ever go back to a wrist strap release. My groups are much tighter then they have ever been and I really like the idea of being hands free and leaving my release on my D-loop.
Where is a good place to get a thumb release.... I got a cheap one to try out without investing a lot and I like them ... So I'm curious to find out where I can get a better one to hunt with
I switched from a wrist to a trufire edge 4 finger. Love the thing. Its nice being able to just hang it on the loop.
