My first attempt planting my own food plot. My in-laws have 10 acres that they will be building on in the next few years. I had right around 1/4 acre that I chose to start with. It was tall grown up fescue and weeds.

I used the back pack sprayer to spray generic round up on 8/2. I went to check on it on 8/9. I had gotten a good kill put touched up a few spots that I had missed.

I then went in on 8/22. Everything was dead and dried up. Since I had rented a tractor to brush hog the rest of the property I ran over the food plot to shred up the dead grass a little bit better, filled it, spread the WR, then pulled a roller with the tractor with a roller that I had pulled out of the weeds, then I spread the clover and lightly spread some turnips and then rolled it again.

Can't wait to check and see how it is growing. I am hoping for some rains this weekend.

Yes, I was able to hunt there last year after gun season and saw a few deer. Im hoping this will keep them coming after the adjacent bean field is harvested.

The property has grown up so much that a brush hog was sorely needed. Being able to rent tractor, trailer, brush hog and tiller for the day for a 170 bucks seemed like a good deal

It was also a huge bonus to find the old roller when I was brush hogging around the shed.

Rye is coming up pretty well in spots. Some of the clover is peeking out as well. Just need rain to get everything off and going.

As an update on my plot, the plot has grown really nicely. But there hasn't been a single deer eat anything in it. Camera has only caught a few deer passing through. I knew and hoped they wouldn't hit it too hard til the crops were down, but I would hAve thought something would be in there. Hopefully as planned it still turns out to be dynamite late season.

Since this picture the height has closed to doubled and the clover has really started showing itself underneath.

Thought I would try and revive the post and post an update. I had not been back since early spring to see how it was doing. The clover looks really good. I went in with a weed eater and knocked all the weeds down. Of course I forgot to take a good picture, but once the weeds were down most of the clover looks like the section in the picture[IMG]
