They didn't put a number on it so I don't see the debate. We've always had this question and B&C's stance isn't going to change the question. I'd barely call it a stance. They could have said "no rifle shots over 200 yards", or "no crossbow or compound bow shots over 50 yards." But they didn't, they just said that anyone who "pops a shot off" at an animal to "see if they can hit it" isn't hunting. I think we all knew that.
I 100% agree with Cablebob's assessment of the situation. Honestly, my hunting ethics are influenced by B&C the same amount their standards influence what I hold as a trophy...zero
There are several hunting shows out there where they routinely shoot deer, elk, and antelope at 700, 800, and sometimes 1,000 yards. They talk about Huskemaw optics and the Berger VLD bullets as well as others. I think these shows and their popularity might be behind Boone and Crockett's statements.
I would have no interest in watching a show like that. Leaving ethics out of it, that's just not exciting.

B/C's statement seemed to be a little on the ambiguous, and vague side. The article is about how far is too far, so I beg them to answer their own question, how far is it? As if to champion a cause with nothing more than rhetoric behind it. Other than to make a statement to satisfy who knows what, possibly a precursor to an actual number associated with their statement somewhere down the road? Not too sure really.
I thought the intent behind the article was spot on. They did not make an attempt to regulate or govern the individuality associated with how one person chooses to hunt from another. they took a stand as an organization to say what they believed was HUNTING and what they believed to be sport killing. Or wrecklessly attempting to take an unethical or inhumane shot without the due diligence of maintaining the predator/prey relationship. I also agree with all the above comments. Shows that depict such practices are in no way entertaining or exciting to me. Thats my humble opinion and I am quite sure it will get slaughtered (from a 1000 yards away) by someone....thanks for posting that article frenchbritt!!!
