Since Todd wears the sport goggles I thought this question fits here.

I'm looking at sunglasses and wondered what opinions are on what's best on the market that folks use.

I like aviator type glasses but am open minded. What I have to have is something very scratch resistant and I like spring temples. Price is no object and I prefer metal frames. I need them for everything from driving to farm work to hunting.

Surprisingly I can't find a lot of info on sunglasses online apart from a pic of available ones...they don't offer much data in regards to if they have spring temples or how scratch resistant they are or if they even are scratch resistant. Amazon is really letting me down on this one so far.

Oakley makes some good ones. Military uses them so they are scratch resistant. I would own a pair but I tend to misplace sunglasses a few times a year.

Haha, I hear that, I've been known to leave them on the fuel tank of a tractor or bulldozer. I'm pretty good about keeping them safe now though. Just because of the farm/outdoors environment though that I work in, I decided years ago to just use the crap from Walmart. Panama Jack glasses are okay for me but they get scratched so effin easy it's ridiculous. They only cost $10-$20 but jeeze they get scratched sitting in the truck.

So I thought I'd try actually spending decent money for a pair and see how long they last. Oakleys are highly rated but I didn't see any mention of what was or wasn't scratch resistant.

You might be right I looked on their website and saw no mention of scratch resistant lens.

Isn't that odd? I'm looking over tons of different brands and styles all over the net and there is hardly any mention anywhere in any of them of features like scratch resistance. I notice a lot of reviews on Amazon actually say this or that pair scratch really easily, lol. Would be nice if there was some sort of scratch resistant score.

I have the Oakley flak jackets and love them.

Mine are prescription with all the up grades and cost a little over $700. Worth every penny, I'm fixing to pick up a second pair.

How is the scratch resistance? Do they have spring temples?
Ohhh, the Radarlock model comes in Camo...dayum

I see the flackjackets have replaceable lenses and tons of options. Replacement lenses are like $34, that's pretty cool.

That wouldn't be a bad option. Have a few lenses on hand if you scratch one just replace it.

I have the flak jackets as well and love them. they are tough as nails. I have some scratches on my lenses but im not gentle with them by any means. I throw them up on the dash, they fall off while scouting, everything you can think of these glasses have been through, and the scratches are pretty much unnoticeable while wearing them. Plus having the cheap option to replace the lenses makes them the best bet....in my opinion.

Ha, well after further review, the replacements I was looking at were generic off brands, the authentic Oakley replacements are like $90...
Reviews say don't bother using the knockoff replacements because Oakleys have zero light refraction or at least they do not ever distort your image whereas the knockoffs are not of the same construction/material..etc..

Still, I'm looking closely at them, I like the style of the Wiretap model too.

This may sound stupid but don't spray bug spray on or near them. I sprayed my self last weekend when I was setting up last weekend for ticks. It ate the ballistic lenses of my Oakley's I can't even see out of them now. Good thing I can get more but they are all ways on back order.

I bought 3 pair of Carhart scratch resistant non shatter glasses for like 12.50 shipped from like granger or something. Clear, brown, and smoke gray.

I can't seem to loss them or break them.

If I remember correctly, all Oakley lenses are ANSI rated too. I have a pair that I wear on my motorcycle and they have held up great!

If you want great glasses for outdoor activities and if you fish much... your search should begin and end with Costas.

I wear RayBans the most, my most comfortable pair are Maui Jims, but by far the best for polarization and seeing clearly outdoors are the Costas.

Maui Jim has nice models, great polarization and are made right here in America. It would almost be un-patriotic not to buy a pair.........

Do the Raybans have spring temples on the wire frame models? This was one big question I have that I have not found an answer to yet.
I'm looking at all the brands mentioned.
