I'm looking into different broad heads, and I'm curious as to what you recommend. Fixed or mechanical? Which brands do you prefer? Ultimately, I'm trying to decide whether to switch to mechanical or stay fixed but I'd like some feedback. I will be shooting a bow with a 55 lb draw weight and want to make sure I'll have the right oomf so to speak.

Just checked them out. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely look into them!

Take a look at the nap blood runner 2 blade broadheads. I've been using them for 3 years and love them. They fly just like my field points.

I've really been leaning towards NAP, especially the Blood Runner and Killzones. Thanks!

NAP hellrazors and NAP killzones! Both work great! I went back to the killzones this year cause I think I like a fixed head more

I've looked into G5, and I like that they're pretty versatile broad heads. Thanks for the input!

55 lb with what draw length/arrow length? I'm assuming 26-27"? If so I'd stick with a fixed blade broadhead. A mechanical will work if you hit the sweet spot but doesn't leave you much room for error. I'll be shooting the NAP Thunderhead Razor this fall and so far they're flying great. If you're dead set on a mechanical look at the Killzone Low KE. It's only 1.5" diameter instead of 2" and is made for setups similar to yours.

I too believe if you are going to use a mechanical you have to hit hard with a heavy arrow, KE of 80 or more to be sure of success. Slick Trick are a great BH, if you go fixed

What happens when you bump up to 62-70 lb with a 30" draw on a little older bow? Does that open up my mechanical selection?

The killzone low KE is 1 3/4" cut according to their website. I wanted to order some for my son but thought that 1/4" difference just wasn't enough, I wanted a 1 1/2" cut for him. I ended up getting him Rage 1 1/2" low KE with a COC tip. We'll see how they do. Hopefully that is helpful to the OP to if they decide to go with a mechanical head.

I've been shooting the Slick Trick Standards for a few years now and have no need to switch. Love the durability and simplicity. Also, don't let the small cutting diameter fool ya, these things open up a very good wound channel.

I remember the first deer I shot with one I swore the entrance and exit hole looks like a slug entry would...surprised the crap out of me.

Muzzy MX-3's. Cheap and simple. I love them, always put a nice hole in the animal. I shot the Montec G5's and liked the Muzzy's better. Montecs are a little more solid, Muzzy blades are thin, but replacements blades are cheap.
And you never have to wonder if they are going to fail to deploy. I like a fixed blade broad head.
Not saying Montecs are bad, I just prefer a $30 pack of Muzzy's.

Another vote here for a well built fixed head. Nothing compares over the years. Any head will work on great hits, but a good fixed head will put up with more punishment on poor hits and they offer a better opportunity at a pass through. That's the most important result in my experience. Its not the size of the hole, its getting a pass through that counts.

I'll throw in another vote for a fixed blade head. I shoot G5 Montecs. At a lower draw weight/ length, penetration is more important. At heavier draw weights and longer lengths, you are going to get a full pass through on a deer regardless of which type of head you use for the most part. I really like the looks of the slick trick broadheads, but it's not like I am going to wear out any of my 6 montecs any time soon.
