For those who have not tried it, boil your brats in beer before you throw them on the grill. The flavor change is amazing! Not a big brat fan? Today I boiled some hotdogs with the brats and then grilled them too. I'll never just grill a dog again! Try it!
Done it.. Amazing difference. Sometimes I smoke my brats for a hour. Then boil on beer and then grill them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's the only way I cook them , adds flavor and shortens the grilling time . Never tried it with the dogs though , I'll have to give it a try . The wife brought home the Beer-n-brats the other day .... wasn't near as good as adding your own beer flavor .
I've always done this only I jullianne a large onion or two and some garlic and add to the boil, then once the brats are ready for the grill I pour off most of the beer, add a half stick of butter and a lil sugar and continue to boil / reduce the beer / onion mixture untill the beer is boiled off and the onions carmelize. Now you have an amazingly succulent topping for the brats
TJ I like your style! I'm going to try that on the 4th. You ever toss any peppers into that? Iowa Vet I'm also going to try boiling the dogs too. I never thought of doing that, but it sounds great!
I throw peppers in it when I can or sometimes make a seperate batch with peppers as only myself and my old man like em.
I add plenty of onions and bell peppers to my boil, using both red and green bell peppers just to put color in it. After the brats are ready ill drain the beer and save the onions and peppers, they are tender and ill put them on top of the brats just to get some smoke flavor in them about 5 minutes before taking the brats off. Awesome flavor when topped over the brats when eaten.
I boil mine in a pan that I fried bacon in, just dump out most of the grease, add beer and any sausage, reduce it down with peppers and onions.
Good stuff, that's how I do mine also... I sometimes make a tray outta foil add your uncooked brats, green peppers, onion, alittle garlic powder or salt and pour the beer in the homemade foil tray and cover and put on the grill and let it cook all together.. yummy
