The lowest I hunt is only about 8ft but I am really tucked away and have excellent cover mostly I like to hunt high and generally 15ft is the lowest but most of the time I'm at 25ft. So it's really just a matter of what kind of cover I have. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The shortest I've hunted from, the plat form was at about 5 or 6'. Any higher and I lost all my backcover.
I'd go down to 6 inches if I had to. Mainly to keep my boots clean. But that's just me. Yes, I'd look like an idiot, but I wouldn't have to use a harness. I noticed a big difference between my stands that are approx. 15' to one I hunted out of at about 20-25' last year. I'll be raising all of my stands this year.
The lowest i usually go is 10 ft and up to 30 or 35 feet it depends on the setting , ground levels , trees , cover and shooting lanes.
I've hunted out of trees that I was only 8-10 feet or so high but that is in have to situations, like took a climber in to a spot blind and the tree I needed to hunt had limbs. Next time I had my LW and sticks. In my opinion, height rules.
About 10 feet is the lowest I have hunted, but that was because the tree was only about 18 feet tall and I hate hunting out of ground blinds for deer!! like some of the other guys have said, the situation and cover determans how high I go. My bow rope is about 25 feet and on my LW sit and climb and I normaly max that out.
a few years back I hung a tree stand 1 foot off the ground in a thick patch of Mt. laurel, it was just enough for my head to be over the bushes, and I had to stand to shoot. shot a doe the first morning hunting that stand.
I've hooked a stand to a tree just to have a seat and platform to ground hunt from. Just because the cover was low and the wind was right.
I took a section off my 13 ft ladder stand think I was about 10 ft.saw a good amount of deer that day.got a 3 pack of climing sticks for my new hang on stand hope it gets me about 10 ft off the ground.
I'll hunt as low as 4 feet off the ground out of a cedar tree. This is the ultimate rush for you adrenaline junkies! Nothing like having a mature whitetail within 10 yards when you are that low to the ground. It just all depends on background cover. Once the leaves are gone the higher the better on hard wood in my area.
Lowest I've hunted was due to the tree, bucks antlers were just below my feet when he walked under me. I prefer to be between 20 and 30 feet up. Situation and vegetation play a big part in the decision.
