I picked this up for free this weekend and looking forward to getting it converted into my newest smoker. There is nothing better then spending a day outside smoking up some awesome food to eat This is what people are turning these into, its a cheap project for an awesome little smoker. Usually cost less than $80 Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
"Smoker" is such a deceiving word. I came in here thinking... Not another one of these "anyone love to lite up cigarettes and get buzzed/cancer?!" OT: We have friends who smoke some of our venison... Can get some incredible flavors with those things.
Here is a tutorial http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/miniwsm.html It is a tamale steamer with the bottom cut out Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
Ya I've been using a masterbuilt electric smoker for 2 years now and love it. I've always wanted a charcoal smoker but never had the extra 300 laying around to get a good one, so this was the next best thing... Did these the other weekend on my electric smoker Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
I got a propane one that's awesome. only have to mind the wood chips, although it pays to keep an extra tank filled and handy. I do salmon filets, whole chickens, thanksgiving turkey, ribs and pork loins. Never done venison, but other than the backstraps I only get ground and steaks and those don't smoke so well.
With a small charcoal smoker, you are always adding or removing charcoals trying to keep the temperature constant. The gas smoker I had was thin walled and I found I was losing a lot of heat and therefore using more propane. My electric smoker is well insulated and works better than the rest. The only downside is the limitation on the size of wood chips I can add.
From what I read on these people are gettin 6-8 hours of 230-240 smoke out of these without adding charcoal, but by far my electric is the easiest to use. Just set the temp and walk away. Just sucks having to add wood chips ever hour or so Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
Ky those ribs look awesome. I have an electric masterbuilt that I've used about a dozen times. Great fun!
Heck yeah I'm a smoker! I smoked the shoulders on 4 or 5 of our deer, smoked probably 30-40 pounds of deer summer sausage and turned probably 100 ducks into something smoked this year. That's not counting the chickens I've done. Masterbuilt electric is what I use as well.
This is the gas smoker I use it doesn't loose a lot of heat because I don't use it in the winter & I make sure I'm not using it in a wind. I haven't had any problems with it yet, it has done a good job every time I've used it. I got it for Christmas about two or three years ago, I was using one of the black R2D2 type charcoal smokers before that & it was a challenge every time I used it.
I love smoking anything and everything. I have 1 charcoal and 2 electrics. I have smoked several pounds of summer sausage for myself and others this winter, and forget the cold smoked cheese of course. I haven't seen anyone mention a bradley smoker, I love it. It's the true set it and forget it smoker, don't have to worry about heat or adding wood. I do also love charcoal smoking just for the true challenge of smoking.
