Had my cousin come in for the Holidays from North Carolina where he is a stationed Marine, And boy 'o' boy does he play the part. He ended up bringing his crossbow and hand crossbow for us to shoot so I figured I would let him shoot the Z7, big mistake.

First thing I asked "Have you shot a compound before?" seems like a easy question to answer. Nope, got the whole im a Marine and I can shoot it all speech. I then proceeded to tell him he should use a release and not his fingers so its a nice easy release and thats the way they are meant to be shoot, I then got the "I got this" statement..Translated to I am a Marine!

Soooo he pulled back, released, and broke it.......Im hoping the string just fell off the cam due to him torquing it with his hand when he released the arrow. The arrow fell straight down when he shot and the string is in one piece.

Any thoughts to what could have happened? Do you think I should handle this as a dry fire?

Sounds like it derailed on release from torquing it!

Time to take it to the local shop, probably just slipped the cam. Hopefully you don't need a new string

Not trying to step on any toes but I got a couple buddies that are marines that have been in for about 7 years. They was good ol boys but now bout can't stand to be around them cuz that arrogant ima marine ****.

I tookm huntin 1 day when they was in from break in rifle season and had 7 does 90 yards away and they missed 14 times. After it was all done and 1 doe gut shot they looked at me in shock and all I said was now I see what's fighting for our country. And jus got up and walked to the deer. Lol

He just gave me a NC native chuckle and said "What a piece of crap, Sorry dude"....I held my tongue because he is my cousin and he probably has zero clue about how much I paid for the bow.

We are hardheaded ya know. Most take it to another level. If your not humble you will never be a good leader to your Marines.

Found out my string was too frayed to put back on safely and shoot. So, now my pro-shop guy is ordering me a new one and I only have to pay cost and shipping. Better than my limbs being screwed up!

When i was in the military we had a saying about soldiers being able to "blank up an anvil with a rubber mallet"

If you want something broken, all you have to do is give it to a marine and tell him to clean it. That should do the trick.

LOL! Sorry man! Not all Marines are like that. Mostly the young ones gargling the kool aide. Most of them calm down, realize they are not special, and come back to reality after being in a while. Same thing in the Army a lot of the time. Probably true from all branches. Maybe not quite as bad as the Marines :D

You did better than I would have...I guess I don't the family as serious as most do...lol. I would have blown a gasket for sure...:biggun: I'm picky about all my Bows and Guns. I rarely ever let anyone shoot them unless I know them very well. Glad it was only the string.

No one EVER touches my bow.

I figure if someone .. anyone .. wants to try it or shoot arrows they will need to do as I have and put cash down on their own bow.

Not a game! To much invested.

Very proud of our service men anyway.. some more than others.

Have been shooting my bow for about a month now and can not get it to paper tune right for the life of me so I took it to my tech to have him look at it. Turns out Mathews will be sending me two new limbs for my bow. This also means that my cousin more than likely screwed my limbs up when he shot the bow the first time.

Dude i've been with the Marines so many times that I never let them shoot my bow unless i can visually see that they have their own. Slugg is right Marines can destroy anything...

Sounds like when he pulled it back with fingers the string pinch forced the arrow to come unnocked and dry fired the bow. I work in a pro shop and we had a man pull back a Mathews Chill and it did the same thing, other than the chill blew up.
