I hear that Jack Russell Terriers are very good at blood tracking.

This book will tell you everything you need to know and more about blood tracking with dogs, different breeds strengths and weakness. John the author is long time friend of mine and we have tracked together on several occasions. I have even been fortunate enough to handle a couple of his seasoned dogs on tracks. Nobody has the knowledge and experience on a track like John does. This is must read book for any future or current handler of tracking dogs.

Wire hair dachshunds, Labs, Labradeagles, Brittany Spaniels or any kind of bird dog.. Pretty much any dog that is interested can find a deer with ease. We had a 3 month old Lab puppy that found a seven point I lost. It took him less than five minutes.

I've had good luck with Pomeranians.

I have used my GSP in the past. Yes she is primarily a bird dog but she has a great nose & a dog can cover a crap ton of area in a grid search.

Use one of these but DO NOT tie the leash around your waist.
