This is a very sad story, it just goes to show you that we dont always get a second chance at everything in life and that a sefety harness is a MUST. As hard as it is to even fathom this, I personally would want to make the call for my life as well, not leave it up to my loved ones. Such a sad story but I pray that it has some kind of impact to all of us on here.
Read about this today. Horrible. Everyone use the free harness that came with your stand atleast! We hunters spend a fortune each year on equipment. What is 150 on a good harness? Stay safe everyone.
I think every person who willingly hunts a treestand without using a safety line and harness should close their eyes and imagine it....
Extremely sad. My F.I.L. had a smililar fall many years ago. The Drs at the time said he would spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair. (paralyzed from waist down) Many surgeries and much hard work and determination later and he now walks, albeit with a cane and daily discomfort and pain, the man has been able to overcome alot. I cannot imagine being in that mans shoes. Prayers for his family. Strap in fellas.......
I lost a dear friend / coworker in 2001 from a tree stand accident. I beg you to where and be fimiliar with your harness. There isn't a season that goes by that I dont thimk about him and what could happen. Rest in peace Tim.
I saw this.....sad sad stuff Be safe and buy a safety harness. This is more important than new camo, arrows, accessories, etc.
I'm a union Ironworker and work at heights all the time. I've gotten so used to wearing a harness every day that it's not even a second thought. I wear mine every time I grab my climber. I know some people may think that it's a waste of time or that it could never happen to them but it's not and it could. You guys stay safe.
Yes I know Tim, he was from my town. I work with his father and his sister is one of my teachers. It is a very sad place here

Had a good friend who fell out of a stand and had to have reconstructive surgery on his face. 12 months later he took his own life. Very sad stuff. I try to tell all my friends they need to strap in when they go up.
That is sad enough to bring tears to your eyes... I could not imagine having to choose to live or die. I wear my harness every time I am in a stand and even when I am hunting from the ground just because I'm so used to wearing it. Seems like I have read about many of these sad stories this year... I'll never hunt from a stand with out a safety harness.
Real Bow Hunters Tie Off. I personally know the value of having a good fitting harness and safety system in place for the just in case scenario. Purchase one, wear it in the stand, learn how to set up your ropes, and live to hunt another day. We all "think we are good" but in a stand at full draw with the biggest Buck you have ever seen.. things happen. Go buy a harness.
