So I am convinced I need to get a deer feeder and start attracting some more deer. I walk by a feeder set out by a rifle hunter on my way to one of my stands and every night on my way out there are deer all around it. The feed I put out on the ground brings them in for a night or two but not consistently. So here is my question to you folks that use them. What do you recommend? Gravity or spinner type. Any brand and models you recommend or tell me to stay away from. Home made or store bought. I know this I'll probably be getting a lot of ideas here but I know absolutely nothing about them and figure I may as well ask those who do know. Thanks!
I have the 200lb Cabelas motorized feeder with the ladder and all that. I bought it 5 years ago, put a solar charger on the battery, and literally haven't done a thing to it other than fill it up. It's gone off twice a day for 5 years nonstop.
Man I wish we could use them here in NY. You'd get arrested for using one here! Then again...it's NYistan...you get arrested no matter what you do.
Its a little late to put a feeder out isnt it? If your gonna buy one that spins the corn out I wouldnt put it out till after the season so you dont spook your deer away. Whenever I get a new feeder I store it out side to get all the smell off of it. Ill wait till it starts snowing because theres no food and there starving thell hit it everyday when Jan Feb come and this will condition them to the corn spinning and not spooking. If your gonna bait. Just put it on the ground and kick some leaves on it so they dont spook let the, find it with there nose hope this helps
Is this what you mean? It is a Herter's one but couldn't see one by Cabela's with a ladder. Herter's® EZ-Load 200-lb. Feeder : Cabela's
That's exactly it, but mine is green and says cabelas on it. Mine also has a varmint cage around the battery and propeller.
Did yours come with the solar battery? I like that idea. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
I can't remember if it came with a battery or not, but I definitely had to buy the solar charger separately. It's a great investment though, no maintenance at all.
Will it fit right into the feeder like a standard battery or was there an attachment purchased separately? I like low maintenance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
The solar charger is just a solar panel that you mount to something, then the wires run to the feeder and clip onto the terminals of the battery that is inside the feeder. Just a word of advice, run the wires through some sort of conduit etc. The squirrels ran train on my wires there for a while before I got smart
We've used a feeder in the harsh winters after season, can't in season, but wouldn't as they're not really my flavor. If you were closer we'd sell ya ours cheap!
I have a wild game innovations model I bought @ Walmart for $100 & it worked good. Also have the $29 moultrie one that I mounted to a 5 gallon bucket & that works well also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
