So our hunting club just put up a rule that is stupid in just about every way. So keep in mind I live in Louisiana and as 99% of hunters know, we don't have many monster 12 points. The rule is we can only shoot a 6 point or better or a doe. Now to some of you this might sound like a good idea but if you think about it, if I see a little wimpy 3 point with a bad rack, I don't want him breeding on all of my does and we cant take him out or we would be kicked off the lease. Second off, if I see a 6 point, I want him breeding on my does to pass on the good genes so I would basically only be shooting the VERY old 6 points, or does which we don't have many of either. I think the reason the rule was put into place is because the man who originally owned the place passed away last year (Mr. J.D Rudd) and he passed the keys into the hands of some not-so-bright 25yr olds. Im not hating on young people because im 12 but I believe the older the wiser. tell me what you think of the rule
1) There is no way of knowing what a spike, fork, spork will be till 3.5yo. 2) Culling bucks to improve antler/herd genetics in a wild herd is impossible. 3) old 6 points? 99% are 1.5yo..They put in an APR which is a great idea. Smart 25yo's imo.
Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. No reason why anyone should be out shooting little 3 pointers or even small 6 pointers for that matter. Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
There is an easy solution, if you don't like the rules leave the club. Not like you are losing money, I doubt at 12 you are paying your own way. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk 2
Sounds like a great idea to me!Bucks can't get big unless you let them age. Trying to cull a wild herd IMO is the biggest myth in the hunting industry.
Im not paying of because it costs a pretty penny at the end of the year and we have been on the waiting list for 5 years now and just got all of our bowstands and gun stands set up which costed a lot of money to go out there, bushhog, build a deck for the trailer, and a whole bunch of other hard things I had to help with.
Hang in there bud. The only way for them to become 12 pointers is to let those 3 and 6 pointers walk. Those 3's are probably only 1 1/2 and they won't reach their potential until 3 1/2.
Why do you keep saying you're 12 when your registration birthdate says January 26, 1976? Like I said on another thread to you, the anonymity of the Internet is great, until you get caught.
Problem with that is everyone's idea of a bad /irregular rack will be different Simpler and less controversy to go with the 6pt rule
Cull buck is not used properly when talking about young deer. You honestly have no idea ow a buck will turn out at a young age. Don't complain about no big deer when what your doing is only hindering your chances at a big buck. Shoot a doe and pass on the small bucks and in a year or too you will start to see better and better deer. Oh and age has nothing to do with it, I am 14 and it all just depends on whether or not you put in the time and effort to learn and listen to the constructive advice that you get from others and on this site. And trust me that rule is definitely constructive when it comes to giving you a better shot at a big deer. Just be patient Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
