Hey guys I have 8 ratchet straps, But they r bright red. Can I paint them or die them black or green so they are not so noticable? If so what do you suggest for paint or die?
I just spray painted mine, worked good enough for me. Never had any problems, but I painted them at my house like 6 months before season and left them outside.
They dont care care about the color I just worry that trespassers will see them. Just go buy a cheap pack of green or black ones Sent from my SGH-T999L using Tapatalk 2
I wouldn't worry about the deer seeing them but with people maybe you could put limbs all in it when you strap them to the tree to help blend them in. Not sure how it would work but I think it would be easier then painting or dying and you wouldn't have no smell to them. Just an idea to think about.
I bought some camo-pattern ratchet straps at tractor supply. They came in packs of 3 for like 10 bucks each. The season before that I had royal blue straps, which I heard deer can see very well. They didnt seem spooked by them though. I think you'll be fine with red
I have painted straps before. Not to hide them from deer, but from dirt-bags that steal stands. Just leave them outside a few days afterwards and they won't smell like paint.
I always attach an extra ratchet strap to each stand for safety. The red color is always a little cheaper so that is what I buy. I have not spooked a deer yet.
If you are hanging stands now, pain them and in no time the smell will be gone as it's on the tree. If waiting a while, paint them and keep the straps outside, out of the sunlight and they should be good by the time you are ready to hang stands.
I've used dye on them before and it works pretty well. I too didn't use to care about the color until I got a stand stolen that had red straps on it. Was that the reason it was stolen? I don't know for sure but I know it made it easier to see by humans. Blessings.........Pastorjim
