I’ve decided to get away from Easton FMJ’s, which I’ve been shooting the last couple of years. I’ve found them to be too heavy and slow for 3D/fun shooting. So, I’m comparing two newer, lighter carbons; one from CX, one from Easton. Without regard to brand names, which of these specs would be better for target shooting, and why? Size: 250 (8.1gpi) Length: 31". Straightness factor: ±.0025". Weight tolerance: ±1.0 grain. Diameter: .295" Size: 400 (7.2 gpi). Straightness factor: ±.001". Weight tolerance: ±1 grain. Diameter: .234".

When you say "size" are you meaning the spine? Just curious because your talkin 400 on one and 250 on the other, seems to be a big jump between the two, if it is indeed spine.
250 is how Carbon Express numbers there .400 spine arrows. They do things weird. 350 is .340 spine while 450 is actually a .300 spine arrow Sent from my MB886 using Tapatalk 2
Hey Josh, both would be fine for 3D. I shoot arrows with the same specs as the top for 3D and for hunting and they do great in both roles. Typically in 3D you want a fatter arrow, but I don't think the differences in those diameters will gain you much. If you know how fast you're shooting now, you can do some approximations to find out what you'll be shooting with each. That's a really tough question man (I'm partial to CE so that's what I would go with but you said you didn't want that bias)
Celtic, thanks for clarifying that. CX throws a lot of people off with their abnormal labeling. indy, I'm a fan of the CX's, also. The stats listed are from the Maxima Red... I'll probably go that direction, but the lighter weight of Easton's "Da Torch" really grabbed my attention, as well as the straightness factor. But I got a feeling that 1 gpi and a .0015 difference is likely "splitting hairs".
I'm all about consistency and accuracy in my setup. I too shoot the reds and they're a great arrow. I shot the blue streaks for many years and they too were awesome. I've had a lot of other arrows / brands but always come back because they shoot so well.
Good thread as these are the two arrows I have been debating to between for my next set of arrows. I also am shooting fmj's just want something lighter as well. It's going to be really hard for me to switch because I love my fmj's. I'm thinking I am going to switch to the reds.
