Another project is in the books, and like most of them, it took way longer than expected partially due to the fact that I'm slow, and partially because of all of the problems I didn't anticipate that had to be fixed. In the end, I'm very happy with how it turned out, even though there are minor "blemishes" that hopefully only I notice (they bug me because I know they are there). Wife loves it, so I suppose that's all that matters. I didn't take as many progress pictures this time, but here's how it went down: -Gutted to the studs -Added shutoffs for this and master bathroom (there were none) -Replaced copper with Pex from shutoffs to both bathrooms -Added ducting from exhaust fan over to master bath exhaust fan, and then out the gable end of the roof (exhaust fans in both bathrooms had NO ducting and were running into the batting) -Re-insulated walls and ceiling to cut back on the absolutely horrendous draft coming in) -New Floor -New Tub/Surround -Adding Recessed Lights Above Shower (Shower rated) -New flooring -New Vanity/Faucet Set -Tile Accent Strip -Custom Built Recessed Cabinets/Mirror That about covers it, I suppose. Here's the pictures: What I started with (that's actually temp flooring we put down a few yeas ago when we first moved...it WAS amazing 70's mustard yellow vinyl...seriously, what was wrong with people in the 70s?). Gutted: Let's just run the romex UNDER the insulation Awesome plumbing with NO shutoffs: No need to attach the shower head plumbing...that's two screws we can save: Exhaust fan running into nothing: Another shot of the original plumbing: Alright, on to some progress: Subfloor down and new plumbing run: Another shot: Shower plumbing: Recessed lighting roughed in and wired (the foil-back insulation was temporary until we got more fiberglass batting installed): Shutoffs before the floor (accessed from the well tank closet): Electrical roughed in (added a GFCI receptacle and a third switch to control the recessed lights): Flooring installed (groutable vinyl...happy with it): Surround and tub installed: One recessed cabinet framed in:
Drywall and painted: Building the cabinet doors and mirrors: Finished product: Cabinet behind the main door: Tub and lighting: Shot of the mirror and new vanity lights: All in all, pretty happy with it. Wife gets the credit for the colors and design:D
Nice work, I like the recessed cabinet. Amazing all of the short cuts you see that other people did when you remodel, isn't it?
Nice work MGH...I like it when you do things yourself....makes you proud. I like the screws you put in to hold the shower plumbing....did those put you over budget ? Years ago, I don't think any of the contractors put in shut off valves... you know that $1.59 might have been a money looser for them. When I moved into my house in '87, it was built in 1955... the same thing , not a shut off valve in sight, now after remodeling a few rooms, the only thing that doesn't have a valve is the bathtub / shower supply line.
Very nicely done. Tho' I don't get the faucet at all. My house was built in 1882. I should be thankful it has any plumbing at all... but you should see what passes for our shower/tub. Egads.
Other than seeming like you should be playing atari looking in the mirror while washing your hands, very well done sir! Lot of time and effort put in there. Good job.
I had to go back and look at it, but i thought it looked cool I've seen one like it in a fancy restaurant one time and they are even cooler in person lol
To me, it looks like somebody had to make a faucet and all they had was a piece of glass, some exhaust manifold pipe and a big toggle switch.
