I am looking to select my hunting dates early this year for my Ohio trip. Picked up a second farm which has produced some giants over the years. Was wondering if anyone has planned for their 2013 trip in regards to moon phase landing on November 17th this year. My dates available are the 2nd thru 11th or 13-21st. Just looking for some feedback on dates you are all looking at and whether the equinox will effect choice- thanks-matt
If you don't have to select early I would wait as long as you can to decide. I hunt in Illinois not Ohio, so what I have to say is pretty much meaningless. With that being said, I thought in central illinois it ran a little late this year. In my area it seemed to really be in full force around nov 10. The year before it was about 5 days earlier. I like the 2nd thru 11th myself. I pay attention to the moon, but am more interested in cold fronts, crop removal, other hunter presure and actually seeing deer chase. Good luck and both weeks are pretty damn good if you ask me.
My daughter's birthday is on the 12th, this is why I am gearing around this day. May have to go trial an error this year. Regardless I would be back home for a week hunting, cannot get much better than that. Having a March meltdown here, really excited bc it's been a few years since I have been back to hunt.
From what I understand, the moon phase is supposed to be out of whack this year do to an extremely bright comet that's supposed to be around in late October and most of November.
I always plan for the first FULL week in November....usually works out pretty well for me....I'm in upstate NY Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I like the 2nd to 11th that's when I'm taking off. I've been planning my hunts around the new moon and perigee which I've read about in a book by Bill Vale. New moon is nov. 3 perigee is nov. 6
I will be looking at a day or two off attached between weekends. If I am not already tagged out that is! I'll probable hunt something like 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 16, and 17.
Moon phases aren't dictated by comets or like. There are factors like temperature, weather conditions and others that can either add to or take away from the natural affects of the moon cycles on animals and their breeding times.
2012 rut was heating up right around halloween week-first week of november. I wasn't out as much right around halloween though, hurrican Sandra put a monkey wrench into things here. Rut was in full swing by the 3rd (that's when i noticed it, as that's about the time frame i got back out there after the terrential rain)
I always Stay on stand Starting On Holloween, and sit all Day right till Muzzleloader season, Or Kill One, I think This year I will Kill On the 9th. A Monster with My Bow.
First week of November. It's all about amount of daylight. I don't drink the moon koolaid. 3 days either side of 11/7.
What part of Ohio? I am in SW Ohio but from NE Ohio so I know the entire state fairly well and I might have some food/bar recommendations. I think you're best bet is the early November option.
