Because I cant wait for the bow hunt to start. I was wondering who is over 50 and still bow hunting elk I'm only 51 and still go after them with a bow. My elk mentor hunted elk tell he was 71. He died four years ago at the age of 86. He would still visit us at elk camp each year and I believe he still does. Especially when I blow a chance on a elk and in the back of my mind I hear him laughing and telling me what did we learn this time
I am 57 and I did not go on an elk hunt util I was 50. Since then I have been going every other year. I would go more often if I could afford it.
Oldcarp I'll be 56 in September and still love elk hunting. I hunt my old stomping grounds in Wyoming whenever I draw a tag or if one of my buddies does. I enjoy going along to call as much as hunting myself. My last tag was in 2009 and I didn't draw this year so I'm hoping my buddy who lives in Wyoming gets one so I can go call for him. My son, Dubbya, is a guide in Wyoming now so I hope to share a camp with him in the future.
There is a few more old farts that chase elk then I thought I'm lucky enough to live in elk country. Fitz high 5 for your dad and his buddy. nwflycaster you will love it Elknut you don't look 58 Jeepsta you will catch up to us eventually JGD are you from Wyoming?
Yes sir I am. Grew up near the Big Horn Mountains but I now live in Texas. I go home every September to bow hunt antelope, deer, elk. Just depends on which tag I draw. What part of Utah are you in?
There is a CIA Agent that was an agent for decades, I think he was one who helped take down the Jackal. When the War in Afghanistan came around he was 71, he had to get a waiver and because he was so well known, they let him deploy to the mountains of Afghanistan with Special Forces units at the beginning of the war. I forgot the name of the book, but it was very good! If he can survive those thousands of feet in freezing weather at that old of age, I think youll be fine at your young age. Also, im half your age = )
I'll be 66 and drawing Soc. Security this Sept. and I'll be after the Elk again. Our group meets up with a couple of "oldsters" from Utah most every year. Hope to see them out there again this year. I will admit that I don't work quite as hard at it as I use to, but I still love it!!
