Alright now that my deer season is over, it's time to think about coyote hunting. I was wondering have any of you eaten coyotes? I have done some research online and found a few recipes, but was wondering what your opinions were on it?
I would not actively seek out a coyote to eat. But if it was offered to me and on a plate, ready.. I would do it.
I wasn't going to eat a yote i was just wondering if people do eat them. So i looked further into it online. To me it's sounds crazy but some people out there do like them.
Just a feeler question for some. People often times accept Bear or Mt Lion as acceptable table fare. Why so much disdain towards a coyote? I'm nowhere near defending it, just curious as to the reasoning's. Would you eat wolf?
Holy crap, seen this topic in the recipe section and thought it was misplaced. I'm just glad there wasn't a recipe to go along with it. My opinion, I don't even think it is the dog and mans best friend connection. I just feel there are animals that are table fare, and animals that are ecosystem requirements. I hunt one and kill the other, I hunt to eat and kill to thin the population when needed. If coyotes were as sparse as some areas I see people mention, I probably wouldn't shoot one just because it was there. They do serve a purpose, but too many and they decimate turkey populations and can have an effect on deer populations. I don't eat opossum or raccoon either, so I don't kill them for practice, I would if I sold pelts and whatnot but I don't. I won't eat cat, horse, canine, opossum or raccoon. Life depending on it? I'd see just how far I could before I would try it.
I guess if someone cooked it and asked me to try it I would. I never have tried though, and dont really have many yotes here to hunt let alone eat.
Honestly, if I was starving, and the only thing I had to eat was a coyote.... I would. Too me it would be like eating mans best friend. Even though coyotes are a real pain in the butt around here. I have eaten raccoon, woodchuck and snake among others. My boyfriend jokingly tells our dogs, that is things get bad, and we need to eat. The brown dogs go first...... LOL
I definitely wouldn't eat them just to do so but I wouldn't hesitate to eat them if things got really desperate and needed the nourishment.
I don't even know where I'd sell a pelt if I were to go that route. But the two I have killed just get tossed to the side off the beaten path. And as I learned last year, need to move them a bit further from the stand, after about a week when the winds blow from that direction it's ripe
I thought it was federal law that you remove the meat? Also cls74, is it not cost effective to make some kind of rug or blanket out of them?
Only on game animals. Coyote is not considered game. I really want a nice winter coyote to soft tan for my wall. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
