Okay so a guy i work with just sent me this picture. His friend is friends wiht the guy that shot this. Tagged this year in the state of Maine. I want to see if anyone here knows anything about this deer. I could be wrong but this looks like it could be a world record, let alone a state record. Any seen this picture or know anything about it?
That body doesn't even look natural! If real that thing is a beast! If fair chased that thing is a beast! Wow!
I agree. But it almost looks fake. The shadows from the antlers on the tree don't look correct upon closer inspection. Also, look how his right hand is gripping the base of the antler. Who holds a trophy rack like that - a dainty grip with fingers and thumb? Also consider how his right arm is just about fully extended. His left arm would have to be freakishly long to reach the rack in that position. Just my 2 cents
All I know is that whitetail hunting in Maine can be painfully slow, I heard a stat once that Maine averages .5 deer per square mile. I've only ever seen moose while in Maine. With the terrain up there, and the amount of open wilderness, I'd say its possible for a buck to have gone undetected by hunters and live to get huge. I have no idea if this picture is the real deal, but it doesnt completely surprise me.
Thr head also looks freakishly small for the body and rack Sent from my SGH-T959 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
It was killed last fall in WI behind a high fence. The picture is real. There was a thread on it last fall and I posted the link to the ranch's website. I forget the address or the name of the place now.
I apologize, it was killed in 2009. Wilderness Whitetails is the name of the place. Follow the link below. http://www.wildernesswhitetails.com/hunting/Hunting/Trophy_Gallery/Pages/2009_Season.html
Wasn't it some Indian reservation or something? Definitely been around a year or two, and I'm sure will pop up in the same manner for years to come.
Welp, thats the end of that story haha. Thanks guys. Just let my work friend know that he can tell his buddy that he was screwed with or lied to. Oh well. Can't beleive that place has the balls to call its company "Wilderness Whitetails". Nothing fair chase about that in my book.
Okay is it just me or does it not say anything about fenced in property? I found "Uniquely Managed" .....which is eluding to that but don't they have to come out and say it?
what i found on the webiste dan posted is (homepage toward the bottom): "Our hunting properties is comprised of 3 different areas making up ~1000 acres of managed, fair chase opportunities for our clients" i'm not up on outfitters or anything as i don't believe in having a 10,000 dollar deer hanging on my wall but where i come from fair chase is the exact opposite of high fence....interesting that they can use this term
I know I actually sent them a friendly email simply requesting the information on whether their land is fenced or not
It is high fenced... http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/hunting/2010/02/hurteau-420-pound-buck-was-killed-game-farm
