Like the title says, got my first buck! Not only was it my first buck, but it was also my first deer with my bow which is very exciting for me Anyways, here's the story on him... Drove up to Kansas for thanksgiving week with innovative outfitters. Got here Friday and made my first hunt Saturday morning. Got in the stand and it was very windy, about 35 MPH. I ended up only seeing one doe so I went to a different spot for the evening. Saw a good bit of deer, including this guy but couldn't get a shot on any. Went to the same stand in the morning and same thing, saw a good bit of deer along with this one but no shot. Every deer I saw walked along a ridge about 80 yards away from me so I moved stands for that evening hunt. Well, this guy walks out and stops at 60 yards then goes right back into the woods. Stayed at that spot and he showed up every time. He chased a doe right under my stand Monday morning but could never get him to stop. I noticed every time he came out he would walk along the same trail right next to a few trees in the opening These are the trees I'm talking about I told the guide and he came out that afternoon to pick me up and brought a lone wolf with some climbing sticks. We put the stand in the trees and cleared a few shooting lanes. I went out yesterday evening in the stand we had just hung. Lost my phone on my way out on one of the trails so I was pretty frustrated the whole time I was out there not being able to know what time it was. Sat out all evening without any action until right before dark. I looked to my left for a little and when I looked to my right, what do you know, the buck had already chased a doe past my shooting lane. I turned to get a better look and noticed a nice 8 point on my left 20 yards away turned broadside. I couldn't decide if I wanted to take him or not so I just watched him for a bit. He probably would have scored a bit more than the other one but I could tell he was pretty young and for some reason, I really wanted the other buck. When the buck I was after saw the 8 point he came back and watched him then turned around and started making a scrape before chasing the doe again. The 8 point followed and I started second guessing my decision to pass him not knowing if I'd get another opportunity again. I bleated, no response. I grunted and waited a few seconds when I heard them coming back. The doe walked to my right but I didn't see the bucks. I turned around and they were both coming towards me until the one I was after chased the 8 point away and walked right toward my shooting lane. I drew back and he stopped before he got to where I could shoot so I held back for a while until he started walking again. I bleated to try and stop him but got no response. I had already had him walk right by and told myself it wasn't gonna happen again. I yelled hey at him and he looked up at me but still didn't stop walking so I just took the shot while I had it. He was 20 yards out and broadside. On impact he kicked up and took off crashing into the woods. I could tell the shot was a little back and I didn't get a pass through so I didn't know whether to be excited or not. I sat down and shook real bad for a while (buck fever got to me). Snuck out the stand a while later and went to the cabin. Told everyone what happened and we decided to wait till the morning to go out. Didn't sleep last night thinking about everything the whole time and watching the video. Well, got up this morning and went out. Had a pretty good blood trail to follow but I was still nervous. We went about 250 yards and saw him with the arrow sticking out his side. The coyotes tore up his rear pretty bad but nothing else. Never been so excited in my life! I will have to post the video of it all tomorrow, I'm in the car and can't upload it right now
