Hey guys if you've been watching me train Toby this is part 3. It was the 30th day that we had him and his first day searching in an actual woods/field setting. Please let me know what you think of the videos. It helps me get ideas of what to do next.

Your doing a great job with him, there won't be a shed left in the woods once you all three get out there!

Thanks. I have high hope for the little guy. I'm glad you liked the video. I can't wait to film him hunting for real this spring.

When do you start bringing your trained dogs out for hunts?

Just watched all 3 of the videos and nicely done! I am hoping to get a lab in the semi-near future and hope to be able to train like that. Can't wait to see more videos!

Well I had never heard of using a dog for shed hunting until our first puppy was 8 months old. He got a late start but I had him out right away. A lot of his training was in the woods while I was out looking. I'm planning on bringing Toby out as this hunting season ends in Jan. I'll work with him a lot outside before we start shed hunting for real but he should be 9 months old when we go out for our first real hunt. I started Blake late but his first find was a spike that I had stepped right over. We were walking back to the truck and he was behind me. I heard him stop and then something rattling around in his mouth. I turned around and he's carrying a ten inch spike in his mouth. He was ten months old and only had two months worth of training.

I would seriously consider making that drive if my dogs could find sheds. Where we live is really hard to find them. We had a cold winter a few years back and got into a spot with numerous sheds. It was so much fun. I always wanted to bring my dogs to a spot where it doesn't take a week to find one. I'll plant a few along the way to keep his interest but its way better for him to have a shot at the real deal.

Thanks for the videos. He's doing great for being so young. Good job. Kudos to you and your wife both for making the time to work with the dogs consistently :)

Ha Ha I almost named Toby Zeus but my little sister ended up coming up with the name for us. I'm sure he'll pick up the shed training no problem.

Any tricks or tips I have I've shared in the videos. I'd love to hear other tips that anyone might have though.
