I am thinking of planting half my plot in turnips and the other half in rape. Would that be a good combination for later season?
With rape and turnips you get the best of both worlds they eat the tops early season and the bulbs late season. they are my favorites to plant !
Where can I buy turnips without buying from the internet? I'm looking to start a turnip plot but been having no luck finding a local store
your local co-op should have some...if not, a garden seed store...or a sporting goods store...lots of food plot manufacturers make turnip varieties
I've not liked the results of any rape seed that I've planted. Of the turnips......green globe is what I've liked the best. I'd plant half in actual turnips and the other half in oats. You'll have attraction all season.
Both But then again my deer with eat about anything That and I actually work the ground so I have a nice seed bed
I found the turnip seeds I was looking for. I went to walmart and they had purple top turnip seed for 98cents a pack and there a 50 pack. Do you think these seed will work. Should I plant them around July or august. They say on the pack 55 days to maturity.
Yes 98 cents for 50 seeds. Have a plot about 10 x 10 for starters and planning on putting them there to see how it works out. Bought 25 packs so I have about a 1000 seeds and planning on getting 25 more packs. You think that will be good for a 10x10 plot?
5 lbs does a .5 acre. The problem most have is getting it on THIN enough. You have to fight the urge to put more seed in. Weigh your seeds, but you literally have like 1/32 of an acre, so you may have enough.
with the seed i have now it almost a pound. so I was thinking that if I get a few more pack it shouldbe plenty to cover that small patch. I have a couple other food plots. One is red and white clover, and the other two are a mixed with brassica and rye grass with little bit of clover. This small one I just made to see if the turnips will do good and if they do then nexted year I will double the size of the plot
