Denied I hit the field this afternoon with my oldest son. Spooked 2 groups and a single gobbler on the way in. Enter stage left - About a hour before sunset I had 7 strutters work their way into my set sounding off all the way. I had a real good look at them. 2 in the group were shooters fo sure! They were on a string from 465 yard out all the way in to 135 yards, slow and steady... and then..... Enter stage right - 5 hens. The boss hen and I went head to head. She was really letting loose! They walked right past my decoys at 65 yards and went right to the strutters. Those toms did everything they could to turn the hens back my way but they were not having any part of it. Toms flipped a b*tch and game over. I watched them exit the field and roost right at dark. I called home to see if I could stash my stuff for tomorrow AM and got a big nope. Kids soccer game at 10 AM. I hate when that happens! THIS AINT OVER YET!

Here are a few pics from KS. Tagged out on 2 Jakes. Biggest: Your score is 17 + 1.25 + 1.25 + 8.5 = 28. Had a blast on the annual KS hunt, if I had to live in another state, Kansas is right up there. Love that state. Hope to find a big eastern in MN! I will post more pics of the trip soon, swamped with work...but I thought i'd post one and at least get it on the scoreboard :D
It was a fine day to be Turkey hunting in NE, KS. Except the fact I got a late start.... The words mild, overcast, and light winds set the stage for an excellent day! I checked out a couple new spots today. It seemed as if there were turkeys in every field on the short jaunt there. The first place had a pipeline running diagonal through the property. I walked the pipe line. A few hundred yards in I spotted two turkeys 100 yards to my front. They were walking away from me. They had no idea I was there! I slid to the side of the cut out, dropped to my knees, knocked an arrow and crawled on all fours to a large cedar 20 yards in front of me. I peeked out just far enough I could see them. I gave them a couple clucks to let them know I was there. To my disbelief they flipped a 180 and start walking right at me. I knew there were at least two but was unsure if more were in toe. I watched them for no more than 10 seconds and knew they were committed! They were covering the ground quickly. I went to full draw from my knees and in a few seconds the first bird appeared no more than 5 yards directly in my sight housing. A Jake... dang... Next bird.. Another Jake... Dang! I just couldn't bring myself to kill either one... I slowly let down after they were well past me.... they both just strolled on by me and never had any idea I was there. I considered it a success even though neither Jake did the flippity flop. Just one of several unique encounters I had today! Looks like shotgun season will be well under way before I can get back out again!
Change of plans. We got in another hunt this morning before the rain sets in. Had a coyote come in and mess up the fly down first thing this morning. He paid for it with his life.

Chris Schwarz....now on team 9. Had first season in Wisconsin, also have 3rd and 6th coming up. 10.5 beard, 3/4 and 7/8 spurs 23.5lbs (conservative, not a very good scale)
