How old is that ad? Here are a couple of the bows that I have owned. Browning Nomad, JVA Astro Stinger, XI Demon, Bowtech Equalizer. Current bowfishing rigs. Top: TNT Revolution (22" ATA) Bottom: Oneida Osprey I have yet to own (or even shoot a Mathews) but maybe one of these days that will change.
That add was probably late 94 I had one of those bows, shot bears plenty of deer with it, it now hangs in the rafters of my shop. It was the last time I owned a Mathews, their customer service went way down hill a few years later after they got big.
Cool ad. Did those first compound bows have a let off or should I say valley? I don't see a cam on it and my understanding is that's how they get the let off on the draw weight.
They were eccentric, meaning the hole for the axle isnt in the middle of the wheel, as you drew it rold over, that was your let off and your power. Most were 50% as they started making profiles on the cam then they were able to go to higher let offs. Guys today dont really know what a smooth draw is, right before the single cam came out in the early nineties, a round wheel bow was a very smooth draw. We try to put to much mechanical advantage into the draw cycle now, every bow I draw now is like trying to get a mack truck to get moveing, includeing my beloved Hoyts.
wow do I feel old,the first compound I owned was a Bear Blacktail,32" draw 50#,and yes my young friends they did have a 50%let off, back to a stick and string now a days
I owned a Bear Whitetail Hunter but I got rid of it. Bought it new. That was my first compound. Yay for old people! :D
I wonder did they realize the similarities between this bows ad and the Helim. All the same except bows weighting 3.5lbs float now.
I remember getting a Bear Whitetail for Christmas when I was 12. That would have been around 76 or 77. I am old.
Same here, a little later maybe 87, still have that bow. Could regularly hit a Coke can at 40 yds, so much for "Old school". It probably could still do it, me not so much.
mathews shipped one to a buddy of mine Darren Bennett and he wanted me to open the box. i thought it was a toy!!! couldnt believe it.
