Today I visited a clients home to discuss his homeowners insurance. He asked me if he had coverage for his "preps". I wasn't sure what he meant, he said "I store some food in my basement." I'm thinking no big deal, lots of people have a pantry or can food, how much can one house have? He took me downstairs to show me his "preps". No joke, short of a grocery store, I've never seen so many cans of food in one place. Had to be in the thousands. I asked if I could get a picture to keep in his file and he wigged out, talking about being on a list. Needless to say, I didn't get a picture.

He called himself a "prepper" (a term I'd not heard before today) and said that its very common. I can understand putting away some extra grub for hard times, stocking up when there are sales, etc. But I've never seen anything like this, like he's stocking up for the end of the world. Has anyone else seen/heard anything like this? I'm wondering if he's just paranoid.....or I'm simply REALLY not prepared.:o

My brother approached me a few months ago and asked if he could use my cabin's basement to store some emergency food for the family, a just in case scenario. I told him sure no problem, the next time I went I was shocked how much he had there. He had bought storage shelves and lined the walls of 2 rooms and stocked them full. Not to mention the 5 gallon buckets of dry goods he had stacked on the floor. Maybe he knows something I don't...

We aren't survivalists or worried about the fall of man but we can a lot of stuff and, while it isn't thousands, it is a lot more than most folks. We also buy stuff in bulk, more to save money than accumulate stockpiles, so, we have a fair bit of stuff downstairs. Actually, once the growing season starts producing we'll have a lot more canned goods, fruits and vegetables.

I used to visit lots of AR15 pages. Some folks took things to the next level. Litterly 20,000 rounds of 223 ammo or more. Some had a "bugout" vehicle, for end of civiliation. Shelters, it went on and on.

I just couldn't hang. Too much worry.

WTF do people in Illinois and Nebraska have to be paranoid about? Nobody cares about Nebraska.

I have heard of people doing that too lol. My neighbor actually buried a bunch of guns in his yard, from what I'm told anyways.

I think it's pretty obvious that nobody cares about Louisiana.

Beat me to it. Nebraska would be saved long before Louisiana.

Louisiana is protected by Billy the Exterminator. Its safe to say danger will be kept at bay.

Louisiana has one of the most important ports in the world. But yeah, Nebraska is way more important.

And I'm not going to even mention the oil industry in LA.

I seen a show on the other night were people are coupon nuts and try to buy as much as possible for penny's on the dollar on double coupon day and stock up for no reason at all other then it is on sale.

My brother went bonkers over w2k deal and buried a bus on his ground in branson mo, and did the stock pile deal and i have never let him live it down:D

I'm about the same - too much weird crap going on to not have some stores. Got a cousin who works for the DIA - say's he's doing the same thing.

Not a full blown prepper, but I am prepared.
