has anyone else had this, i had a young spike i watched bowhunting and just found his remains this week walkin through the woods. no sheds found but i wasnt out to long
I have not had that happen and to be honest I would be sad because I enjoy watching them grow up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I fund a couple small deer every year after the season. Most of the time I would say it's probably coyotes or being hit on the near by road but usually just a pile or bones so hard to say. Just part of if I guess so I don't get too worked up. Does suck sometimes though
I find dead ones all the time. Last year I found 11 dead bucks. Below are some of the bigger ones I have found.
I would say some have been hit by cars due to the areas I find them but others I'm not sure. It may just be that I am walking areas that no one else really accesses so any deer that has died in the last 4 or 5 years would still be there as long as the squirrels haven't chewed them up. We have also had an increase in bear and coyotes in our area so I'm sure they play a big role in it.
I find at least a couple dead bucks every year, and they are usually bucks that I have pics of. So many ways that a deer can end up dying.
Sad to think of the meat lost to feed a individual or family. I can understand if it's a natural death but to think someone would deliberately shoot a deer and not do the utmost to find it kinda sucks. I know a kid who's placed bad shots with a rifle or bow and just let the deer wonder off and die. I guess since my primary reason to hunt are meet and the relaxing time spent in the woods I find it sad to see poor sportsmanship. I also know other predators, other deers, disease, ect can kill them so it's not a human only problem.
Me and a couple buddies find dead bucks every year we go to ohio. Sometimes its because they get hit by cars, but more often than not its due to a bad shot or a bad tracking job. Same goes for here in NY, guarantee to find dead ones that nobody claimed within a short stroll around the woods.
I will be cutting off the head to one that I found the other day and now I have DNR's permission to retrieve it.
Found a beautiful dead buck last year. One of the bigger ones around our parts for sure. It hurt to see it, but glad I was still able to recover it. The culprit may have been EHD. Our area was hit hard this year, luckily (so far) my farm was spared. Hopefully it doesn't continue next year.
What he said EHD and other diseases would be my guess I'm sure some are poched and some are automobile hits but EHD is a factor in the mid west. I never find dead bucks here in Vermont
Here are two dead heads that I have found this year. I was on my way out to cut off the head of one after DNR gave me the go ahead to take him. I decided to go for a short walk and then found the other one so I call DNR again to let them know I found another one and then was able to take both home. Here they are:
