I'm still 50 days from when tag applications start and my pre-season planning has already started. My brother in law are planing to hunt together, provided his bonus is big enough to get a bow. We were looking on Google earth trying to pick a couple of spots to set up a base camp. If the weather holds, we will load up the truck with my oldest two boys and go see how easily we can access the first spot.

I have also started shooting regularly as in I don't think we are going to have a winter (only three snowstorms projected over the next couple of months). And depending on the next couple of months, I should be able to switch from 125 grain fixed broadheads to 100 grain expandable.

The last phase of my pre-season prep is getting into shape. I have a home gym in the garage that I'll get back on when the temps ay night go up a little. I have cut out sugar in my coffee and have gotten out of the office a lot more so my "office weight" is starting to go away.

I'll keep everyone up to date on my pre-season prep. Let me know what you are doing.

Sounds good. How far are your walks and do you carry any weight?

Its only about a mile right now. The mountain still has a bit of snow on it. I try to get myself up to 3 miles with about 20lbs. It isnt much but I do live at 5600' and there is a couple good hills I climb. In the summer I have a little fly fishing spot up the canyon I hike to and that helps to.

Sounds like a plan OC. I know there are a couple of lakes that are a couple mile hikes in that I'm hoping my boys can make this summer.

My boys are all married off and they drag me around like I did to them while they were growing up. Its sort of nice they drag most my animals out for me now :nana:

My boss and I were talking about kids in deer camp and he said it was some of their fondest memories and something that they still partake in to this day. That's what I'm hoping to do with my kids.

43 days left before tag applications open up. Just had a storm roll through so I don't plan on shooting much. I have, however, possibly found a nice deer camp spot through a coworker and verified it using Acme Mapper.

Wreckless good luck on your new hunting spot. This last storm sort of slowed down my walking and shooting

I've been hiking around every other day or so. I have a couple of traps set so I 'have' to go out. Lol. Yesterday the snow about wore me out.

I left the truck down by the road and hiked up there. Snow sure made it an adventure. I may need to get snowshoes one of these days.

Jumped a half dozen mule deer that were bedded in the junipers. They ran right to my truck. Hmmmm.

Just a few days ago the snow was pretty much gone from the south and western slopes.

When I drove out of this area at dark, I had to stop and let about 200 elk cross the road in front of me. :)

Starting a new project this week. Work keeps me in fairly good shape but mostly shooting the bow for now. My eating habits are getting better but don't touch my Mt. Dew!
Love the photos! Stay warm up there!

We had a storm roll through the last week. Temps are frigid at best, so no shooting this weekend.

Sounds like a good deal, Christine. Have you trapped anything yet. Love your pictures!

Sadly, I'm not trapping 'yotes or 'cats. Lol. I only have two sets for cats and two for yotes. I don't the the bobcat has come back through. The yotes laugh at my sets. There were some fresh lion tracks... thankfully he didn't come anywhere near the traps. I'm using smaller traps so they shouldn't be able to hold a lion.... I hope.

I wanted to set more traps but just about every bobcat location I scouted is being trapped already. Bobcat season ends today so I may have more places to myself.... I'll be after coyotes... or even just A coyote. I have trapped hundreds of critters but never a coyote (on purpose). Coyotes just weren't worth the trouble back in Illinois. Of course, I have never caught a bobcat either. Lol

    Oh well.

This is the area in which my brother in law and I plan on hunting if we draw that area. The marker will be our base camp and we'll hunt the canyons around there.

Not yet. We're waiting a little before actually scouting. We want to make sure that we'll be able to hunt in that area this year. Once tag results are out (Memorial Day weekend), we'll start scouting together on the weekends we have off (he works shift and I'm straight days). Right now, we're just pre-scouting
