My Buddy and I have applied for out zone 6 tags finally! We both already had 5 points. We have leased a beautiful 300+ acre farm in Davis County for the first 3 weeks of Nov! Now the countdown begins!

Congrats! Our farm is in Adams County (Zone 4). Solid area to hunt. Enjoy! There is also some great public land around Lake Icaria, if you don’t want to burn your 300 acres out.

Had a mixed experience in Iowa...however that said plan tentatively is to head back that way in 2024....and perhaps not be as picky this time LOL

Although, it is much easier passing a confirmed shooter at the outfit, knowing two seconds later something bigger is more likely than anywhere else I hunt back home.

Hunters who choose not to apply for General deer/ Antlerless-only combination licenses in 2024 may purchase one preference point that will improve chances of getting a license in a future year. Preference points may only be purchased May 4 - June 2.

Man, my two best friends got I believe their 5th or 6th point and are drawing most likely this year. They are booking with an outfitter since the time/money invested in a tag is so out of control. They asked me years ago if I wanted to get my points so I could go with them. After seeing what they're going to have wrapped up in it, no bueno. All told, they're looking at 5-6K for a whitetail hunt! I'm sorry, no whitetail on the planet is worth that to me. Me... I have been buying preference points for Arizona... Wyoming and Montana for my upcoming elk hunt... lol.

True story buddy. I just can't wrap my head around what people are spending to hunt there for an animal that is the most prevelent deer in the country... lol. Iowa sure has a helluva racket going thats for sure.

My buddies and I sub lease when we draw from an outfitter I’m tight with. I’m not going to hunt public land on a 5 year draw tag system. All comes down to how much ya want to spend and your time available to hunt.

Thats kind of the direction my two friends went. They have a week to do it, so they went the route of a high end outfitter that has very good reviews. It sounds like a one and done deal for them.

I'm trying to decide what I want to do with this elk deal. Most of the high opportunity hunts I'm seeing in the 6-8K range and now Wyoming is 2K for a tag. But I think the added cost of elk, opposed to whitetails is worth it as the logistics are harder and getting me and and elk off the mountain is way more involved. But I prefer a more DIY hunt, but elk is a different animal, no pun intended. lol
