Just bought the tactacam bow package to run along with the big camera this year. Do you guys prefer to mount it to your stabilizer or use the actual camera as one?
I haven't used the Tactacam but I've used a GoPro and it has a tendency to vibrate when you shoot mounted to a stabilizer. Tactacam footage I've seen has done the same so something to think about.
I, personally, like having a regular stabilizer and mounting the Tactacam separately. I user their gun mount and clamp it along the side or top of my stabilizer.
Does the standard "Gun Mount" fit snug on the Bee Stinger stabilizer arm, or do you need to put a rubber bushing on to bulk up the diameter?
Yes you can snug it down really well. Be warned though that if the beestinger has a wrap on it like some of the color ones it can cause it to warp some. You can replace them if you have too but something to be mindful of.
I also prefer the gun mount so I can clamp it to my stabilizer. That way I can take it off when I'm doing other things like shooting 3-D. When it comes to turkey hunting or being in a ground blind you need to mount it up higher on the riser or chances are the blind will block the footage. I'm most likely going to rig something up around the level of my sight - possibly even just zip tie it right to the riser. Quick and easy!
I don't video my hunts but as a viewer of videos, I don't care for the actual "shot" view because it is always jumping and therefore unclear. However, the Tactacam does provide some nice pre-shot video.
I have noticed this as well. The movement caused by the vibration is distracting and does not always show a clear picture of the shot.
I personally think it helps. I'm sure it will depend on the dampening capabilities of your stabilizer.
I agree. It's frustrating to watch the actual moment of the shot via the tactacam. It's a nice secondary angle to compliment the main camera.
I mount my Tactacam over the top of my stabilizer on a picatinny rail. It seems to be a little more solid this way.
